I am disabled, have used LLMs for my work (not creative work), and am 100% against cloud-based LLM corps and the data centers they're pushing. there are good uses - none of them require a giant data center. the tech is not at the level to be worth it. this is how they take away our right to think.

It’s true that some access technologies use/require gAI; so yes, it has certain uses. But being broadly anti-AI is not ableist; big tech is relying on this defensive attitude to demolish any/all critiques. We need to think structurally for a truly just world.

And yes, being "anti-AI" is ableist. Full stop. I have the chops to say so, having working in disability services for 10+ years in higher ed as the actual "accessible technology coordinator." I have a background in IT. I know more about it than you do.

I just do want to say, please look at situations like this and realize your lay off has no reflection on how good you are at your job whatsoever. There is nothing you can do or could have done to ensure this doesn't happen to you except for work to change the industry.

There is a direct connection between Musk becoming a trillionaire and your current financial precarity. Every dollar he makes that he can’t possibly spend is effectively a dollar that ceases to exist: a dollar out of the economy, out of your pocket. He gets richer at all the world’s expense.

"I'm okay with using LLMs for the sake of the team's work-life balance" is a really insidious thing to say because no tool (however effective) can give you work-life balance. Work-life balance comes from good boundaries, appropriate headcount, clear responsibilities, and realistic scheduling.

Cosmic horror is great because it just kinda invents itself. Spend a bit too long thinking about the sun and you realize it’s a radioactive death ball larger than your mind has capacity to comprehend, so inherently dangerous that looking directly at it will harm you, and it’s just sitting there.

I love how the estimate for an upcoming doctor appointment looked wrong and when I called to ask about it I was told _all_ this medical group's estimates are wrong and to call my insurance. Doesn't feel like a Good Faith Estimate if you know they're all wrong 🤦

I consider myself a consummate professional, but if you tell me you’re laying off employees under embargo, I would feel morally obligated to break that embargo as soon as possible so that employees could make arrangements. I’ve been in the mad-rush mode following a surprise layoff. It’s awful.

Ubisoft EMBARGOED news to outlets about the layoffs and studio closures, FYI. Employees were told this morning. And then many reached out to us. Companies trying to embargo layoffs and closures might be the most embarrassing thing I've ever seen in my 16 years.

"A.i." doesn't empower anyone. It strips them of belief in themselves and the power of their own minds and hands and abilities and stories. EVERY KID CAN DRAW. EVERY KID CAN TELL STORIES AND MAKE COMICS. Fuck "A.i." for telling kids lies and making them less-than.

1/3 of the game industry has lost their job in the last two years. Ubisoft closed two more studios today. Everyone is out of work. To that end I'm starting a new bundle to benefit a layoffs hardship fund. Game devs: please consider submitting your PAID games to the bundle, which will launch in July.

The thing that gets me about using genAI for concepting is that all my collabs with concept artists made my designs way better. They ask the right questions and thus allow us to start with a much more solid foundation. It shows once again most people don't understand what concept art is for
