Look at the work that beavers have done on this creek! They are a "keystone species" - they have a disproportionately large effect on their natural environment relative to their abundance and help define an entire ecosystem by influencing food webs and biodiversity. Yay, beavers! 🦫

A narrow creek winds through a prairie coulee, surrounded by riparian forest. It's fall so the landscape is shades of brown, but the creek is reflecting the bright blue sky. There are two neat beaver dams across the river.

There were an estimated 30-60 MILLION American bison🦬 in the late 18th century, before European colonization. For comparison, there were 27M beef cows in the US in Jan 2026. Today, their population is ~500,000. But they once shaped the ecology of the Great Plains. Let's talk about it.

transport is the main barrier to accessing health care for rural residents. if RFK Jr guts NEMT, it will kill people, especially disabled folks. it will also harm providers/hospitals—rural and urban—plus regional economies. it tells you exactly what RFK Jr really thinks of rural americans...

NEMT is in the crosshairs of those arguing it is the site of fraud (in states like CA, NY & MN). "NEMT . . . assists people with disabilities who have frequent appointments and people with limited public transit options or long travel times to health care providers, such as those in rural areas."

Forgive me but…this would make an ideal Christmas present. Get in early! An original, published artwork from the hardback Vintage Classics edition of The Woman in Black, written by Susan Hill. £500 + P&P Artwork size: A4 on slightly larger Arches paper. Email: nicktankardart@gmail.com

A black pen and rolled printing ink illustration of a leafless winter tree dark against the setting sun. The sun sets behind the the dark trunk, a burst of sunlight flare breaks the silhouette of the tree. Ivy crawls up the trunk and branches, thickening the outline. Crows and their nests at the top, roosting in the leafless branches. The sky is a gloomy grey. Another tree sits on the left of the illustration, the silhouetted figure of a man walks between the trees. Atmospheric, a scene of the English countryside in winter time. Cold & bleak.
