The letter, organized by the council’s progressive and women’s caucuses, comes several weeks after a 33-year-old woman named Samantha Randazzo went into labor during her May 15 arraignment at Brooklyn Criminal Court. At nine months pregnant, she was handcuffed behind her back as she waited to be arraigned for low-level drug and trespassing charges. While NYPD officials say the handcuffs were removed while Randazzo was in active labor, her baby was delivered by a court officer without any medical equipment, and she was reportedly in full view of multiple court staff. . Mere hours earlier, she was discharged from Coney Island Hospital despite being in police custody and heavily pregnant. Randazzo ultimately delivered a healthy baby a little before midnight.”

Today I joined the Department of Environmental Protection in Bushwick to clear a catch basin overflowing with debris and litter on Knickerbocker Avenue, one of the areas hit hardest by Wednesday’s storm.

Debris are removed from a catch basin with a large metal implement. Mayor Mamdani and city workers from the NYC DEP look down into a catch basin.

What's the #1 reason the rent is too damn high? Investors. COPA would put more and more homes out of investors' reach by giving nonprofits first right to buy most residential buildings. This is one of the most important Council bills in decades and a @nycprogressives.bsky.social priority.

As many New Yorkers prepare to celebrate Lag B'Omer, Forest Hills residents faced despicable antisemitic graffiti on the walls of private homes, synagogues, and elsewhere. A swastika was even hatefully scrawled over a memorial for Kristallnacht survivors. This hate cannot stand.
