Excited to share this work out as a preprint! We found that E. faecalis biofilms suppress neutrophil effector functions through two complementary mechanisms: extracellular acidification that dampens ATP and NADPH production and a bacterial density-dependent inhibitory effect.

We've been learning a lot about how Enterococcus faecalis interacts with neutrophils lately. In our latest preprint, @harisantypas.bsky.social describes how lactic acid from E. faecalis dampens neutrophil metabolism leading to NETosis and phagoytosis suppression. #microsky
