The thing about being a liberal or progressive in the South is you do not entertain The Noble Savage/Trump Supporter in a Diner thought whatsoever.
dc statehood is non-negotiable after trump's actions in his second term. republicans despise the people of the city that hosts them, and there is little reason to think that, now that the seal is broken on treating them as an occupied population, a next republican president will be more restrained

It’s cool, and not incredibly demoralizing, that the last ~25 years (? more?) have been an increasingly flagrant demonstration that The Rules, as we were brought up to understand them, just do not apply to a lot of people

i think it’s also about ossoff wanting to write the narrative of his victory preemptively. he doesn’t want the story to be that he won because of inflation. he wants it to be that he won because he went scorched earth against MAGA bigotry.

the problem American 'conservatives' have with communists isn't that the latter oppressed, starved, and immiserated millions and generally ran fucked-up societies; American 'conservatives' are most offended by communists' *symbolic* commitment to the notion of social justice

Federico]@chrispps.bsky.social · 2d agoa key thing about American 'conservatives' is that they have always deeply admired the brutality of their official enemies, whether they be communists, Islamists, etc; they envy the amoral methods of the enemy and find those methods aesthetically superior to the 'weakness' of democratic societies
@beaubaumann.bsky.social is right: everyday, until the supposed day of public execution, is a struggle over the message. I would add two things: First, when I say that the Civil War taught us No Kings, No Masters, this is what I mean. The master had sovereign authority over the plantation.

Feels to me like the U.S. government livestreaming the shooting death of a guy in a wheelchair is going to be in all the history books, and hopefully framed as the end of an era that was very bad, and not the start of an era that was much, much worse
this is now an extended record of Ossoff showing up to debates like making the other guy slit his wrists afterwards is a viable win condition
Democratic candidates up and down the ballot take note: when your central thesis is "i have scraped dogshit off my shoe that has more moral fiber and respect than my opponent" you can land some real body blows on the other guy across a VARIETY of topics

Pete Hegseth has failed in every adult job that didn't entail having his hand held by experienced assistants, & he's never been more than mediocre in those that did. He has failed his first marriage & failed himself with drink. He has only not failed more because his second wife polices him.

I've been immersed in research on Reconstruction in Lousiana and it's a very difficult truth to absorb that the white terrorist movement in the South was among the most successful terrorist movements in global history. Took 10 years but it won a total & complete victory through murder and atrocity.
Roger Marshall is like it Mr. Burns had become a doctor.
