New preprint! Work led by Doug Hardman on the Barkley Marathons. This was a lot of fun, reading lots of rich qualitative data from interviews and reports. Navigating the Barkley Marathons #psychscisky #neuroskyence #cognition 🧪
In case anyone got a really odd post/reply from me on here, think my account was compromised/hacked - been 'suspended' for 9 days and only just let back! What did I miss?!
Edu-conference nerd: Sitting at #EdFest writing notes with my #CogSciSci pen in my #researchED notebook 😂🤪 (I also have more jute bags than I know what to do with!)
Sports Day. Back when I was HoD I had an NQT who was a Y8 form tutor. A Polish girl called Martha moved into her class. Martha was a perfectionist who found peer relationships tricky. She needed everything to be perfect and predictable which is, I think, why she preferred adults.

Schools can't win in this heat, because there is no good decision to make, only least worst options.
27 degrees will be on the cool side in the next five days... The article goes on to cite research that behaviour gets worse above 25 degrees.
We know how unpleasant it is trying to teach in a hot classroom – but how exactly do high temperatures affect learning? @jasminenorden.bsky.social explores the scientific research
NEW POST: ● Understanding isn't just knowledge (and how we can teach it) → christianmooreanderson.com/understandin...
My second book is out now. If you are interested in curriculum design and how DI ideas can be applied to the everyday classroom, it's well worth a read.
*** NEW POST *** If teachers only ever follow a playbook, who understands enough to write the next one? 1/3

The Monthly Dispatch — What's New in Learning Science? — June 2026
The most-cited AI-in-education paper gets retracted, retrieval practice hits a wall under high cognitive load, and a little knowledge turns out to be worse than none at all.
