I think something that's missing is compensation for city councilors as well as funding for running an election campaign. There's a huge incumbency bias in local politics so why would anyone quit their job and run an obviously doomed campaign?

Nicholas Rae@nickrae.bsky.social · 7d agoRedevelopment and renovations makes up about 10% of evictions. Owner use is around 60%. That doesn't mean that it isn't important to have protections for tenants due to redevelopment, but they're much more likely to be evicted due to other reasons

The City appealed to the Supreme Court… and lost again. The Court wrote that the test of “good faith” was the demonstration of “frankness and impartiality.” This was opposite of having secret meetings targeting a specific development purely to placate “surrounding residents [who] raised a clamour.”
