Oscar Hammerstein had a terrific 1943, with Oklahoma! opening in March and Carmen Jones opening in December. Finding himself the toast of Broadway again after a long string of failures, he took out a self-deprecating ad in the January 5, 1944 issue of Variety listing his flops. An absolute legend.

Absolutely unbelievable how solar power has taken off worldwide during the Hormuz oil crisis. You don't have to hand it to him, but Trump may have done more to finally kick off a global civilization of effete librul solar users than anyone else in the West

Chart showing solar panel exports from China (the main solar panel maker by a long shot) growing steadily & mightily from 2018 through 2026, then spiking by almost 2x in March 2026.

BIG DEAL on voting rights this morning: Governor Spanberger just restored the voting rights of some 60,000+ Virginians. Her move reverses Youngkin's abrupt decision in 2023 to end automatic voting rights restoration, which brought Virginia back to a system of default lifetime disenfranchisement.

Virginia Governor Restores Voting Rights for Thousands With Past Felony Convictions - Bolts

This is the only state that, absent action by the governor, bans people convicted of any felony from voting for life. Virginians have an opportunity to end that system for good in November.

this is distressing. as a disabled streamer, my small income from twitch is a big deal for me. hope there's enough outcry to get them to not do this. if not??? I'm honestly not sure what to do, and many people (especially marginalized streamers) will be in a similar situation. fuck this. fuck AI.

Twitch and Amazon are apparently planning to use streams to train Generative AI. Multiple sources tell me it will be announced in the coming months, despite some internal friction against it. Creators may be able to opt out of some training data.

So I'm saying, if you're going to go off about AI use by individual authors I'd hope you don't fall for the corporate ploy....where we all do witchhunts on each other only. GO OFF ON THE CORP FIRST ALWAYS and then I can't tell you who to pull or not.

This may seem like me quibbling about something, but I don't think it is, this is how they shift blame and escape culpability. Every single statement about "writers" using AI should contain a mention of how AI companies have promoted this use. Every. Single. One. No escaping blame for them.

If someone is going to post about pulling a multi million dollar book deal where they suspect an author is using AI, then included in that statement should be the corporations who supply AI. Call them garbage and name them too. Go off cuz you got the time to name an individual author. DO IT.

process and ideas of taste, but leaving that aside. I feel like EVERY SINGLE CALL OUT, should include a statement about the companies that made this tech available. I'm sensing a shift. A shift where the tech is available so we only yell at the person suspected of using it. Okay so yell +

Apropos of too many things lately, here's a spite poem I wrote a few weeks ago **makes unflinching eye contact while jamming more em dashes in** full disrespect to anyone writing with AI and also to the idea that we should change our voices and styles because the plagiarism machine is copying us

I will not cede my em dashes
I gathered them over countless afternoons in the languorous haze of foxing pages––breathing in the must of bygone times.

I unearthed them in a hundred many-branching conversations––no eye contact, just enthusiasm and did you know that rabbit trailing bliss.

I knelt at Emily Dickinson’s feet, and Emily Brontë’s, felt the press of punctuation against each shoulder––a knighting. A charge.

I will not cede them. I am oath-bound, sworn in fealty to complexity, to the broken, never-ending word. I must wield––.
