Look diesel going up to six bucks a gallon isn't ideal but it would only be a big deal if we were a huge country where the vast majority of our consumer goods, commodities, building materials, and food were transported almost entirely by vehicles that run on it

The premise of the Muppet Show is that if you greenlight it, the biggest stars in the world will gladly appear on your network because they want to meet Kermit and seduce him.

TNG -> DS9 follows the pattern of construction (set up the utopian future), deconstruction (interrogate this utopian future), and reconstruction (show how it can still be a utopian future… if you can keep it) A lot of modern writers are really only interested in the middle part, for some reason

Chuck Tingle thread on being open to your own creative ideas and “the fearlessness of sincerity” being so very important. Over and over—across media types and genres—the work that feels sincere is what I’m drawn to, and what I form lasting connections with.

i understand the instinct to wrangle these creative transmissions and control the outcome when you connect to them. thats so much raw power in our human hands and it can be scary, and one way of making it feel SAFE is to wrap it up in irony or only sample a half measure. buckaroo, STAY OPEN to it

Ruby Bridges was 6-years-old when she stepped into the history books. Bravely accompanied by her mother, she was the first Black child to desegregate an all-white school in the South. It was not long ago… Today is her birthday. She is still with us. She is 72. Happy birthday, Ruby Bridges 💜

Happy 72nd Birthday to Ruby Bridges, who at the age of 6 desegregated the New Orleans public schools. She’s younger than 30 senators and our last two presidents—and only 7 years older than Barack Obama. The past isn’t past.

1000% my fave episode of ST:TNG; possibly of television, period end of story. Richly written, beautifully acted, heart wrenching and human and wonderful. I've not experienced such perfection in a single episode of anything else. I'm verklempt r/n thinking of Picard playing his flute at the end.

if one generally disinterested in Trek were to watch just one episode from the past 60 years, i'd probably recommend THE INNER LIGHT a lovely story that (famously) gives Patrick Stewart an opportunity to flex his acting chops
