People say "unlike Charlie Kirk, you could never get fired for accurately quoting Dolly Parton" and I heartily disagree, you belt out certain verses from "9-to-5" directly to your boss and see how long you stay on the payroll

man we really gotta institute a full moratorium on white people using the word "woke". honestly at this point, not even as a past tense verb. we don't get to say "I woke up at 6" anymore, we gotta find another word for that now. as a community we abused our privileges, and that's the consequence.

The New York Times or whoever will bend over backwards to tell you all this is about "sports" or something, but the goal is elimination. I need cis people to understand how many recent stories contain "and then Libs of Tik Tok discovered a trans person existed, and the person started being hunted"

Anti-trans activists are in uproar in North Carolina. Why? Because an elementary school has hired a trans teacher. Anti-trans activists and Republican elected officials are demanding gendered dress codes for school employees, and for the teacher to be fired. Subscribe to support our journalism.

What horseshit. She embraced gay people at the height of the AIDS crisis, embraced trans people at the height of the war against them, supported Black communities and artists, and wrote the most pro-worker's rights feminist pop song of all time. Neutral my ass

"At a time when no American celebrity seems immune from the country’s many divisions, Dolly Parton was a crossover icon who stayed neutral in the culture wars while still speaking her mind," writes Zachary B. Wolf. | Analysis

Doing errands today with my windows down, listening to Dolly. On my way home, 9 to 5 turned up loud. Making a left turn, & a guy waiting to cross in like... maybe his late 20s? When he hears the music, he stops & salutes my car the whole way past him like a funeral procession was passing by.

I report on ICE flights because flight-tracking allows us to get a lot of information about the Trump regime's mass torture of immigrants. But man, someday, the buses will be just as notorious as the planes. We have gulags in the sky, AND we have gulags on wheels.

I have really enjoyed the experience of reading story after story about how good and selfless and beloved a recently deceased famous person was

I do think it’s whorephobia that of all the Dolly tributes I’ve seen on TV tonight, not single one of them has mentioned how she starred in a movie called “The Best Little WHOREHOUSE in Texas” where she lovingly and respectfully portrayed a whorehouse madame.

🧊🚸⛓️ ”ICE just arrested a 5-year-old boy on his way to a soccer game in my home city of Austin, Texas. His name, just like the name of the little boy from Minnesota, is Liam. And Liam should be starting kindergarten this week, but instead he’s sitting in a trailer prison right now in Dilley, Texas.”

Texas Lawmakers Call on ICE to Close Detention Camp Where 100+ Children Are Held

In Texas, calls are mounting to shut down the South Texas Family Residential Center in Dilley, where it’s estimated more than 100 children are being detained by ICE. This comes after a 5-year-old boy,...

Remember Enemy of the State? I constantly think about how the premise of that movie is that what we are experiencing. I mean it's dramatic as hell (helicopter chases IIRC?) so things don't *look* the same, but the core? Digital tracking and being able to manipulate that to implicate innocents

I understand the political realities regarding impeachment in general, but in all seriousness, if I were a Canadian watching the US adamently refuse to impeach Donald Trump for repeatedly threatening a treaty ally with imperial conquest, I wouldn't trust Americans ever again.

i genuinely think that the way this admin is treating Canada will be looked back on as of the most shameful chapters of modern US history far too many people are laughing it off as unserious but the reality is that they’re spitting in the face of our closest ally for no reason

The repeated pattern over the last 6 years is that transparency and honesty from Biden was harshly punished by the political media with negative coverage, while lies and coverups from the Trump administration result in the rosiest possible assumptions being inserted into stories in their place.

why did the mainstream media cover the deliberate abandonment of obsolete and decommissioned equipment during the Afghanistan withdrawal as a scandal for the Biden administration yet they do not cover the total destruction of US bases in the gulf by Iran as a scandal for the Trump administration?

Lara Korte, who was just fired from Stars & Stripes, has been covering the relocation of personnel from Bahrain for months and did a great piece today on 1,300 Navy family members displaced from Bahrain who are stuck in limbo given the damage to the Bahrain base. www.stripes.com/branches/nav...

The United States' ridiculous demand that Canada remove French to secure a trade deal—a shoddy attempt at weakening our sovereignty/making an economic 51st state—is having the absolutely hilarious effect of uniting Quebec and the rest of Canada. Y'all have no idea how hilarious and improbable it is

So, given all that, in what way is "biological [male/female]" a useful term? Its sole purpose is to lie about our bodies to provoke bigotry. I wish cis people (especially allies) understood what hormones actually do, but for now I'll settle for them not throwing slurs my way.

I've increasingly seen the terms "Biological [male/female]" used to talk about trans people, even by people trying to be supportive, and I wanted to get my thoughts down about that. The tl;dr is that the terms are slurs and factually wrong, and pushing back when you see them is appreciated.
