You can/should read Emily Wilson's latest take on the Odyssey, but I'm logging on to convey my hairdresser's reaction. She was AGHAST that Nolan, with his million $ budget, gave Matt Damon ONLY 6 hair extensions. As a result, his hair did not blow around properly, & that ruined the film for her.
Something I’ve been thinking about a lot lately is what generational eating disorders - because many women I know are like 3rd or 4th generation starving themselves and teaching their girls to do the same - does to femme bodies as it gets repeated and passed down. Probably not anything good.

My job incl handling sensitive, private, medical info plus all your personal info up to SSN. It's all being fed to Ai & Ai is not covered under HIPAA. It's really fucking scary.

I admittedly cannot vouch for any of the aforementioned writers, as I’ve never heard of them before. But over the weekend as I was writing this, Kat Tenbarge — a writer I am familiar with and respect — released this video in response to her being falsely accused of using AI by [checks notes] Ozzy Osbourne’s son. Apparently, Osbourne thought an article Tenbarge wrote about the Tate brothers was written by AI because it included (in his words) “whatever they’re called, like the big hyphens” (aka, em-dashes). Tenbarge’s video includes proof (via Google Docs of drafts of her article saved along the way) that she wrote it organically. And she cites OpenAI itself who said, “AI writing detectors don’t work.”
So why does Jack “whatever they’re called, like the big hyphens” Osbourne care if some Rolling Stone article was written by or with AI? Well, I’d wager he doesn’t. Especially, since he doesn’t even know what em-dashes are! The most likely scenario is that he raised the issue because he is either 1) pro-Tate brothers and wanted to smear a journalist who wrote about the case against them, or 2) he knew a video smearing said journalist would be clickbait for the rabidly misogynistic Tate fanbase. (Notice how this is not a list of three, but two.)

I was not surprised by her first two complaints: general anger issues and having few outside hobbies. I WAS surprised at her mention of how many men apparently don’t wash their hair or butts.
The reason enshittification sucks is precisely because so many things are so much better than they were 40 years ago. Things should be even better 40 years from now, but not if the people with money and power are allowed to make things suck on purpose.
When I was a child, a mere 30ish years ago, a developmentally disabled man who was well known in my community for being SO kind was nearly beaten to death by someone who avoided facing consequences for assault by claiming he thought the disabled man was hitting on him (the “gay panic” defense).

Even girls (and “girls” - anyone perceived as a girl by others) who aren’t overtly being pushed to diet can experience caloric restriction against their will bc their parents just don’t understand that teenagers need a lot of food, bc schools don’t give enough time to eat and don’t allow snacking…

a lot of people seem to think there is a fundamental inferiority to women that simply isn't true and a lot of those differences are less your biological makeup and more the fact that boys get so much more support, food, and training than girls, that gulf vanishes the more you equalize those things
