Save what we love. I repost a lot. I like to amplify. The flower in my avatar is a cereus, or orchid cactus. The banner is my cat Madmartigan’s paw on a knitting project of mine, red and blue two color brioche. My media tab is mostly cats and knitting.

The people who will inevitably lose Medicaid because they cannot jump through all these hoops will be reinstated at additional administrative expense because they are still eligible and will come back in worse health— whatever reason there is for doing this it’s not cost saving

Headline writer calls it "potential upheaval" but "intentional, eugenics-adjacent cruelty" would describe it just as well www.ipm.org/news/2026-08...

In the US, every pharmacy has whole aisles of supplements of various kinds. Not a *single item* of which is FDA regulated except for any OTC pre-natal vitamins. This is because the snake oil industry is 4x larger than the whole pharmaceutical industry.

The global wellness industry, at $6.2 trillion a year, is 4x larger than the global pharmaceutical industry, to give some perspective for why the only supplements that *are* FDA regulated are pre-natal vitamins.

Fountain pen enthusiasts, please send me all your recs, links, and tips! My fingers are inkstained. My soul is fixed. My heart is happy. I'd planned to head over to Atlas Stationers while in Chicago for ALA, but never made it. Tempted to preorder for Inkvent, but I'm brand new to this category.

I don't understand the whole "if AI went away, how would you get anything done?" argument. If you go back 4 years, we were doing things just fine without it.

So the idea was that community colleges needed to be incentivized to graduate their students, the schools clear the benchmarks, and the state legislature just shortchanges them to the point that some schools are predicting a 25% shortfall in their budget. But don’t raise tuition.

“Across the state, community colleges have exceeded expectations on those metrics, and the total amount due to the colleges is now millions of dollars more than the amount the board is allowed to distribute before the next legislative session.” www.dallasobserver.com/news/state-f...

North Texas community colleges set to lose millions amid state funding changes

The state incentivized community colleges to improve student success outcomes. Now, Texas can’t afford to pay up.

some specific democrats suck and they suck in ways that are detrimental to issues that you personally care about you know how you solve that once we are past the primaries? you elect even more democrats so that their votes are less important joe manchin couldn’t have done as much damage as vote 52

The important thing to know about boots is that Dr. Martens was bought by a private equity firm a while back, the boots are now garbage in terms of construction quality, but Solovair set up to make similar boots on the old equipment in the old factory and their versions are much better quality.

Will Wilkinson@wlknsn.xyz · 19h ago

My take on boots discourse is that we face a lemons problem with many consumer goods, given the acquisition of many storied brands by companies aggressively milking accumulated brand equity for higher profits, such that price and reputation for durability does not reliably predict higher roi.

Black Detroiters have been voting for progressives longer than some of your faves have actually BEEN progressive. Rashida Tlaib was first elected to the Congressional seat once occupied by John Conyers, who consistently advocated for M4A. thepulseinstitute.org/2019/11/02/j...

and this is why you should just wait until the final numbers come out instead of creating astoundingly inaccurate and false drama based on when fucking state and county databases and spreadsheets update

no one is ever leading. no one is gaining on another candidate. it’s just incomplete data until it’s counted and verified. this isn’t a football game. this isn’t the top of the seventh inning. it’s just counting.

good reminder that before the counting is over, election results don’t tighten. at no point is anyone trailing. nobody moves closer. they’re just tabulating the polls. it’s a fixed number that just isn’t done yet. to say otherwise is bad journalism but even worse math.

Reminder to everyone living with smoky air right now: DRINK MORE WATER. You're inhaling particulate even if you can't see it, your body needs to flush that crud out, and it needs water to do so. You're probably gonna produce more mucus and that's annoying, but it's helping clean out the crud.
