My wife keeps getting We Didn't Start The Fire by Billy Joel stuck in head. I deliberately write shopping lists, text messages, etc. in the same meter and it drives her insane. I've denied it so far.

You should be out making friends in the park or grocery store. But meeting people is hard, especially when the world’s most unfriended nerds want you to use slop machines to make slop friends. This Friday, @erikahall.bsky.social and @kiostark.bsky.social will teach you How to Talk to Strangers!

How to Talk to Strangers

There are 8 billion new friends out there. Or at least encounters that can make memories and good stories. And that’s all life is, really.

ngl, it amuses me greatly to see “pervert glasses” enter the mainstream as short-hand for Meta’s… um… pervert glasses. The Guardian’s running this headline and not feeling the need to add any context.

Headline from The Guardian: “Why I'll never be convinced by Meta's ‘pervert’ glasses“

I am amazed that people walk into discussions among knowledgeable human experts and say “ChatGPT says…” It’s very insulting to do that, and it makes you look ridiculous. Everybody has seen LLMs spit out wrong information about *extremely* simple things. Don’t make a fool of yourself!

@dirtyfeed.org Finally caught up with your “Mary” posts. Great stuff! Maybe an investigative path you’ve considered, but if you have a friend in NYC/LA, you could ask them to pop into the Paley Center? It looks like they’ve got two or three episodes in their collection that are viewable in-person.

Got my Poem/1, and wrestling with the moral dilemma that I’m using AI to replace the work traditionally performed by our nation’s minute-by-minute-time-telling poets.

The coffee's cold at ten twenty, / It waits for warmth, oh so gently.
Brush strokes dance, colors blend with glee, / It's eleven thirty-three.Twelve oh two, jellyfish so spry, / In a bowtie, he waves goodbye.

This reminds me of the discussion I had with a coworker last week that I don’t want to do code reviews of AI-written code any more — I want to review the conversations engineers are having with their bots so I can give feedback on THAT.

Read a bunch of random tech blogs etc today and man, the AI writing is out of control. I'd almost rather you give me the bullet points you fed into the machine because it's so tedious to wade through the bland prose.

Now feeling old because I searched my Twitter archive file and found out that it’s *15 years* since I observed “Glanced at BitCoin forums. Nothing inspires faith in a currency like realising it’s run by the kinds of folks who argue on Debian listservs.”

I'm studying property law around blockchain assets and basically, Crypto bros: “We want to be outside of the centralized legal and banking systems because we don’t trust governments! Hardcore libertarians over here!” Also crypto bros when they screw up: “Wahh why won’t the legal system rescue me”
