I will remember Rod Liddle for the fact that the lawyer who checked my book before publication had no issue with me writing that Liddle couldn’t be a teacher because he’d have had sex with the students. Why? Because Liddle wrote it in a national magazine.

To take the toughest question "were school closures worth doing?" The government did not want to do it, it was not a default response, and at least the first time it was against an apocalyptic backdrop. It was a choice that, as much as I hate him, Matt Hancock did not do lightly.
the "eat out to help out" thing -- the fact that you couldn't get the discount if you got takeaway, which helps the business the exact same amount without risking anyone's life -- was like an existential unmooring thing for me. a time when i fully realised i live at the whim of capricious idiots

It is quite strange how little the actual public inquiry we're having into the UK's Covid response - the one that's publishing in-depth reports every few months - factors into the "you're not even allowed to ask these questions" complaints. We are, in fact, officially asking these questions!
ironically seeing these freaks do this whole thing again reminds me just how radicalising it was to watch a bunch of posh know-nothing wankers callously talk about letting ordinary people die

The notion that criticising a politician is dehumanising them is so back-to-front. Holding someone to account "humanises" them because it asks them to behave in the manner that decent humans should.
This is a dramatic escalation, far beyond the already Orwellian rules targeting support for Palestine Action. If this goes through, saying for example that: "the IRGC has performed effectively in countering American military pressure" would be punishable by 14 years imprisonment. Absolute lunacy.
