Heads up. Milei introduced his Thiel-aligned “Super RIGI bill” in an op-ed, “opening with “praise for the Dutch East India Company.” As noted by others, the Dutch East India Company was granted a “commercial monopoly, its own army, currency & legal system, & the power to declare war.” 7/31/26

share.googleMilei introduced the Super RIGI project in an op-ed for The Financial Times, opening with praise for the Dutch East India Company (VOC), a corporation that fused corporate and governmental power. It was granted a commercial monopoly, its own army, currency and legal system, and the power to declare war. It built its wealth on colonial exploitation and the enslavement of hundreds of thousands of people. In this sense, the Super RIGI is the legal framework for a foreign-flagged VOC to operate on Argentine soil.
Milei celebrates the VOC as the birthplace of limited liability, "the invention that allowed capitalism to develop its full potential", a supposed gift from the West to the world, upon which Western superiority rests.
Shortly before Thiel's arrival, Argentina's Ministry of Human Capital announced on social media the creation of a social information integration platform called the "Social Digital Twin" (Gemelo Digital Social), de-

There are some lessons Democrats can learn from Republicans. For instance: It's useful to help your friends and hurt your enemies. When there's a bad policy that hangs on forever from inertia, the political virtues of helping friends and hurting enemies makes change a high priority.

I keep going back to that anonymous grand juror in the Chicago Six thing who asked the government prosecutor "do you have unlimited tries?" There has to be a cost—a real, tangible, personally-felt cost—to throwing horseshit cases on people to stroke Trump's ego, or they won't stop doing it.

The judge should drag him into court to say this on the record. Pirro and her staff were subject to ethics rules and contempt restrictions. They couldn’t suborn perjury. Burgum and Trump are posting on social media. They can lie with impunity there.

We're currently passing time waiting for the tornado by discussing Kurt Vonnegut's GHQ boardgame, which was never published in his lifetime. The game was finally released in 2024 and we have a copy in the closet.

When an extremely wealthy individual backs anti rights that threaten to sue you, and you then write a grovelling apology to those groups (thereby legitimising their bad faith attack), is that freedom of speech?

Yeah so NYT asked me ~2 yrs ago to write an op-ed about how the Colorado is running dry, & what we should do to keep this exact thing from happening. I said "There's only one real answer. Bill farmers by how much water they use. Duh." NYT editorial staff freaked tf out & cancelled the piece.

saw an article today about an az politician saying how great it was that we're now in emergency drought conditions because the farmers get automatic bailouts and I feel like way more Professional Rural Understanders just breeze by sentences like that. www.paysonroundup.com/news/arizona...

the thing is that they like Trump and want to help him. Covering him like he's a lame duck at worst-ever levels of unpopularity who has no control over his own party in Congress — how they would cover every previous President in this situation — wouldn't help him so they don't do that.

Chris Geidner@chrisgeidner.bsky.social · 6d ago

What a horribly bad framing. The president can’t get his own party to vote for his own nominee that they confirmed for the next-rung-lower role just last year! That’s not a “threat,” you incompetent people.

I still don't understand the purpose of this conspiracy theory exactly. Why would everyone be trying to cover up that the virus (which was clearly not bioengineered) was loosed through a lab leak as opposed to spread in wet markets?

Ernie Piper@whoisernie.bsky.social · 7d ago

Zeynep Tufekci is still completely insane over the lab leak idea. "There is a conspiracy to cover this up" is not evidence for "covid was a bioweapon that escaped from a lab". It could also be evidence for my theory, "please stop talking about this stupid idea"
