In other Michigan news, the state looks set to elect it's first transgender lawmaker. Joanna Whaley won her Democratic primary and will compete in November for a state house seat, beating a primary opponent who tried and failed to disqualify her for not running under her deadname

The city of Madison is clearing the Ruiz memorial site right now with cops. Many unhoused folks are sleeping there right now and at risk for harm. If you are local and can get down there, please do ASAP. Help people clear their stuff out and de-escalate. Document the harm. Whatever you can do.

When disabled people/many people who work on disability/health pointed to the dangers of this kind of framing since COVID, they were usually mocked ("oh you think everything is eugenics") or ignored. But normalising the idea that the deaths of disabled people are desirable/reassuring is dangerous.

Breaking News: Two deaths in Michigan have been linked to cyclospora. Both people who had the parasite also had underlying health issues.

Ooh! I asked these guys what their deal is a week or so ago when I got one that said, “MSU is coming for us. Little Brother thinks they can out-vote us; show them we win at more than just football.” Here’s their very non-specific website: www.voice-your-vote.org I also had a different question.

Me: Out of pure curiosity are you sending different language to Michigan state fans?

Them: I'm not sure -- sorry.

I just got a "don't have trouble with the snap! Make sure to vote in tomorrow's primary" and I just need to have a brief, emphatic conversation with whoever thought this was a good idea to send to Michigan fans

Minnesota Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve wearing a "Trans Kids Belong" shirt while her team played against (and beat) Sophie Cunningham and the Indiana Fever is such a big "hell yeah fuck you TERFs" moment.

Looked at my general progress framing and made the decision to just spring for the fancy acrylic prints for three of my favorites for this show; while it moves things from 'it'd be nice if these sell' to 'oh boy I hope these go home with someone' it definitely takes some of the pressure off

Day 2 of install: I'm in framing hell. I don't have a steady enough hand to cut these very large mats I need correctly, at least with my current gear. Considered going with cheaper frames but one literally disintegrated after removing the cardboard corners, and I had to catch the glass midair

I feel like I recite @tressiemcphd.bsky.social 's "The Institution Cannot Love You, it doesn't have arms to hold you" on a weekly basis but I guess I'll have to include the addendum "and it may be intentionally trying to kill you"

Time to add another formerly respected institution to the garbage pile, this time @aau.edu, which just worked with the Trump admin to endorse resegregation in high education, embedding MAGA fraudsters as faculty, and banning student expression. www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

Education Secretary Linda McMahon is sending a letter Monday to the leaders of US universities asking them to commit to a slate of campus reforms by the end of 2026 in the Trump administration’s latest effort to overhaul higher education.

The letter, which was reviewed by Bloomberg News, asks schools to publicly pledge to make sweeping changes that include reexamining admissions practices, hiring more conservative faculty, cracking down on student protests, combating grade inflation, reducing foreign donations and lowering tuition.

I've got an idea for doing some outdoor displays, but truly at a loss as to where one gets the signage structures! Anyone know if there's a cheap way to make interpretive signs?

I believe this 100%. The moral injury of the period, the grief from not just the too and so many deaths but the kinds of lives we had before, the laying bare of disposability, the non covid deaths it sped, the institutional strain, the collective fear and distrust, the prioritization of work anyway

One of my Crank Theories of Everything, at least of Everything in the Recent Past, is that we are dealing (badly) with COVID trauma we’d mostly prefer to pretend never happened.
