So apparently that HWA pro-AI newsletter also uses Indigenous water rights issues as a prop, trivializing the activism by Indigenous peoples to protect our water including specific anti-data centre actions. I guess they figured why not alienate Indigenous horror writers while they’re at it?

It seems @draft2digital.bsky.social have at the very least added some guidance for accounts with no actual published titles - contributors receiving shared royalties should be ok! That said - this is still a crappy policy on their part. Indie publishers are continuing to be taken advantage of!

Today I received my first royalty note. I'm one of several authors in an anthology, and my royalty is 14¢. Will I have to pay $12 to get it? What are they doing with tiny royalties like mine? Just keeping them? They are stealing from independent authors. Literally nickle-and-diming us to death.

This!!! Did they even consider how this is going to affect shared revenue projects? The sudden fee makes no sense at all and reeks of either a company going crazy with perceived monopoly - or desperately trying to stay afloat.

"I can't afford a visual artist" So your solution is stabbing artists in the back? Stealing from them? Furthermore, slop-generated imagery suggests slop-generated writing. That's how you're presenting yourself.
