I'm playing around with some @kenney.nl train assets in @godotengine.org. Should I make a simple train track sandbox toy/game?
It wasn't long before I realized *exactly* where I can leverage this new-found knowledge. Fired up a quick test in Desmos, and holy shit. 😤☁️ #gamedev #indiedev
Duuuuude, you can even combine smooth max and smooth min with negative lambda to get effects like this. Mind blown. I previously would have had to do like 50 extra steps with other expensive operations just to achieve similar results. #gamedev #indiedev
Our games industry is people. Our studios are people. Our teams people, our games by people for people. Our games are made by people, in groups of people, in teams of people, making people things for people. The magic is people, and the people deserve so much better than all this. I am so sorry.
for the best part of this year, I've been speaking to former Maxis developers to put together this: a near-6000 word oral history of Spore 🦠 www.designroom.site/spore-an-ora...
Spore: An oral history
A wild bet in development for the better part of a decade, Spore reached for the stars — and, at times, got there. We recently spoke to eight team members, including chief designer Will Wright, to loo...

So we’ve been cooking up some thoughts on Gen AI at @amnesty.org and I’m ecstatic to finally see it out in the world! Our 🗝️ conclusion: standalone gen AI systems, built on unlawful web scraping, constitute mass invasions of privacy by design & should be prohibited www.amnesty.org/en/latest/ne...
oh no, i don't use the ai for <thing that i am paid to do> it's terrible at that. it's great for <thing you are paid to do> though.
Shoutout to the very senior professor in HCI who gave a talk last month about how AI can do qualitative data analysis better than people now.
If you use LLMs to do your data analysis, or if you listen to people who do, you should read this kucharski.substack.com/p/real-signa...
Our work on how gen ai is impacting the labor conditions and power of professional visual artists got a great writeup from Brian Merchant! www.bloodinthemachine.com/p/the-ai-inf...

📽️ New on YouTube: 📽️ Having spent over a decade sharing good practice on Game AI, @tommy.aiandgames.com fears for its survival. But in order to combat the issue, it needs to be brought into the light. Let's talk about Game AI's Existential Crisis. youtu.be/mixkOgBs32s
Gave a talk at Guerrilla Games this morning (slides coming on Monday). Met a bunch of very welcoming, fun and smart people and the tech they built is nothing short of amazing! Had lots of fun hanging out with you folks, thanks so much @jeremy.laumon.name for inviting me!
