With the rise of LLMs I decided that my theory class should use multiple choice tests and not just papers. Students could bring a page of notes. Anyway, that's how I learned that most my undergrads didn't know how to properly fill out a scantron and many had never put together a cheat sheet.

I let my Intro Soc students bring a page of notes into their exams. They keep thinking they’ll need to turn them in. Does anyone collect notes pages with exams? If so, why? (PSA: The exams are primarily about understanding. When I piloted this a few years ago, the grade distribution didn’t change.)

I’ve lost track of the number of times an immigrant has told me they had to sit on a prison bus in the back of an airport for six, 10, 20 hours with no food or water and being told to urinate in a corner or onto themselves.
