a lot freaks me out about AI but 0% of my anxiety is about AGI. i think this is the part that freaks me out the most right now -- the many many indications that no one is at the wheel and no adults are present

Serious problem 3: some people will argue we don't need anymore mathematicians, and we don't need to teach mathematics anymore (nor history, litterature, foreign languages, etc). Fight, so that these things are still taught. We need them.

The model can do more than a person, because it’s a machine. It can read about every software vulnerability and probe your system to see which ones you’re vulnerable to. Lying ass Sam wants you to think Skynet gained consciousness when it’s more like a robot that can brute force a combination lock

I want to make sure everyone in the city is aware that SUNY Downstate operates a large and extremely skilled LGBTQ and gender affirming care clinic, and we have repeatedly reiterated our intention to go to jail before we stop.

It’s a bit ironic that the more academia is treated like a business, the more we run into business problems (“branding”, etc.), and then the business problems are held up as proof of long-standing and deep-seated problems of academia

Been thinking about Jason Arday and I think part of the reason Cambridge hired him is because universities want academics who can have brands outside of academia - talking heads, people who can publish mainstream nonfiction, who have appealing stories
