My absolute favorite(*) driving story was when I lived in Houston, 27 years ago, I saw a TV news report about bad drivers. They interviewed a little old lady who said she never used her turn signals "because ain't nobody got no right to know where I'm goin'!" (*) Least favorite.

Buddy, you are driving something that is registered to you with visible identification at all times and requires a license from the state to use. You don’t really have a right to privacy on the road.

I want to find the person in Medford who decided that nah traffic doesn't need actual cycled traffic lights around 16/38/Medford Square and just scream incoherently in their stupid fucking face until their eyes water and they reconsider their stupid life choices I am really really really angry

One of the things about discourse around The Odyssey is that only a couple of movies a year manage to get into 'the discourse' now, so everyone has to have an opinion on them In the old days there would be a Peter Greenaway film out by now to distract everyone & give them something new to talk about

Combine that with a century of increasingly corporatized and PR-hyped actual innovations, and you’re gonna yield a bunch of callow goofuses thinking they can manifest the most absurdly impractical and useless shit into reality because it was in a shitty book or movie.

All those "Star Trek predicted portable comms tech" arguments ignore that the show was reflecting shit that already in motion and making waves at the time. Solid state electronics had already brought the portable transistor radio craze, which TOS was extrapolating from.

a little down the thread here someone links a more comprehensive article from a local news source; one of the reasons there was drama was cause the director cast a woman as rocky (all good) but wanted to make rocky explicitly a girl because "we could have had a lot of fun with that" (uh WHAT)

in insane local news, the 26 year old director of a rocky horror production was arrested for sending threatening messages to himself in order to get the play shut down bc he didn’t want to deal with cast drama www.mynbc5.com/article/rock...

Its embarrassing how many grown ass adults live in these fantasies where people work for some nonsense like the artificial cultures oligarchs manufacture over survival.

Dumbass CEO of Anthropic thinks people should work for the "corporate mission" over survival.
