just a broken down hobo who's hit rock bottom... and his commanding officer

In short: it hasn't been possible for a while really for the USA to 'win' this war (barring unforeseen events), but it is still very possible for Iran, the GCC, the Middle East, and/or the global economy to *lose* this war and lose it badly. 'Mutual ruin' is always an option in war.

Still can’t over the fact that the president of the United States just told an entire state to pound sand after getting cyberattacked by a foreign adversary because they didn’t vote for him and it was treated like a Tuesday lol

The Tampa Bay Rowdies and Louisville City might've played the greatest game in American soccer history last night. The Rowdies rallied from a 3-0 halftime deficit to win 5-4 and there were four legit BANGERS.

No, No, no. Look, are there lessons to learn from this debacle? Sure. Drone warfare, mag depth, etc. But the solution here is not 'yet more tactical excellence or tech.' It is 'the president asked the impossible of the military and they should have said so.' www.theatlantic.com/internationa...

The War Is Lost. Now Fix What It Broke.

America has to rethink how it moves resources, fights wars, and deters adversaries.

He also tried to help Trump overturn the results of the 2020 election. Again: his legacy is as an enemy of Democracy and the Constitution. It is not too much to ask that Senators not get too warm and fuzzy in public remembrances.

We are ruled by the Council of Nine. They rule for life & are completely unaccountable. Their agent, the president, is empowered to enact their will but will be placed on a short leash when he displeases them. Congress can raise and appropriate funds the president can use or not to his liking.

Johnson: If we lose the midterms, these Democrats will turn every committee of Congress into an investigative body, and they'll go after the president's family, the cabinet, his donors, friends, half of you in this room will be targeted. I run the protection program. We’ll take care of you.

Compare Alito's description of Trump's racist statements (on the left) to Justice Kagan's anthology of Trump's racist statements (on the right). These are passages from this morning's opinions in Mullin v. Doe.

Sam Alito: It is the worst kind of discrimination to create majority-minority congressional districts and so we are going to kill the Voting Rights Act. Also Sam Alito: There is nothing we can do if the president cancels legal status because he thinks the United States is a white country.

Fourth (and *last*) ruling from #SCOTUS is in TPS. For the usual 6-3 majority, Justice Alito holds that federal law forecloses judicial review of statutory challenges to the executive branch's termination of temporary protected status for Haiti, Syria, etc.: www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/25p...

on a sincere level: being a dad rules, kids can be challenging but there simply isn’t anything like raising a little human being and watching them turn into a person in front of you I love my boys very very much and I feel so lucky to have them

I've spent months speaking to current & retired Black service members about being part of the military in this political moment. What I found were officers and soldiers despondent at the resurgence of racism, yet often insistent that they were fighting for what this country could be, not what it is.

The Betrayal of Black Patriots

They devoted their lives to serving the United States. Now the nation’s top military leader is sending the message that they’re not welcome.

This will not end w/ voting rights. The fundamental premises of these SCOTUS opinions are: 1) Anti-discrimination is actually unconstitutional discrimination; 2) Intentional discrimination isn't actionable if any alternative rationale is presented. It's the beginning of the end of civil rights law.

This heinous ruling confirms a worst-case-scenario reading of Callais as an all-purpose shield for racist lawmakers who want to gerrymander Black communities into electoral oblivion. And it’s outrageously partisan—a totally unprincipled gift to the GOP. www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/25p...
