The problem that they always claim they are gonna solve is ‘the need for human labor’ but human labor is not the problem. Human labor is beautiful. It’s what we do regardless of societal structure. The problem is human need. Which, ending human labor but continuing capitalism would only exacerbate.
Maybe getting older and having a bunch of lived experience and neural circuits is GOOD, actually. Imagine that.
None of you were like: "Hey, numbnuts, July has 31 days," huh? TODAY is the final day. 2515 to go.
It is the final day, we're still a long way from home. 2740 to go! (Turns out I was wildly optimistic yesterday...)
Ok so this lady says solar panels are getting built on "the most productive farmland" in her area. Which just ain't true at all. It ain't true here in NC either. Where I ALSO hear that talking point over & over again. Smells like astroturf! So let's get the dirt on solar farms & dirt ✨
I genuinely don't know what to do about this. In our diseased information environment, one MAGA-adjacent "influencer" can do more to shape public opinion than mountains of studies or facts. Where are the pro-clean-energy influencers to counter this shit?
Is also just *so easy* to be on the right side of.

I'm looking for women who have lost weight on GLP-1s. I'm interested in how it's affecting you emotionally. Are you relieved to find something that works? Grumpy from side-effects? More confident in a thin-oriented society? Elated? Disappointed? DMs are open. I won't use names. RTs appreciated.

This morning in Biddeford, Maine, a 26-year-old man said goodbye to his wife and daughter and left for work. Moments later he was dead, shot in the head by ICE agents, the second man ICE has killed in six days. ICE is killing our neighbors. ICE cannot be reformed. Abolish ICE.
A friend of mine found these three kittens behind a Bay Area gas station. They are tame, vaccinated, and incredibly affectionate. Unfortunately, she's unable to keep them and I'm trying to find them a home. They are at risk of going to a shelter. Bay Area people, are you open to adopting?

I just want to use local storage on my devices! I don't want every single fucking gadget I have clogged up with everything I have stored every where else. I don't need everything to be everything all the fucking time! I should not have to constantly fight with my devices!
It's tragically appropriate that we spent a whole generation telling students that the humanities were moribund, and they should all study STEM, only for the greatest innovations in STEM to prove why the humanities were so essential all along.

Anyhow I think my main point may be: I often find that criticisms of AI-use target very human patterns of carelessness, sloppiness, unseriousness, pretension, lack of effort, lack of thinking & depth etc. already prevalent in difficult work such as research but we have been largely tolerant of.
🧵 … Hey all … I’m in search of story sources who’d want to interview for an upcoming feature about trans folks who’ve moved from red states to blue ones, especially since the last presidential election. Signal boosts appreciated.

There's a close family resemblance between "We'd be much less productive if we actually had to check every paper we cited" and "We'd not be able to deport nearly as many people if we had to give all of them due process."
I'm sorry, what? In writing my first monograph, I spent six weeks trying to track down a citation in TWO languages I didn't know. And good thing too, because the citation was wrong. That's scholarship. That's research. You know, the thing we're trained to do?!?
