Hey #WAState, @cantwell.senate.gov is in favor of the mass surveillance and censorship bill calling itself the “kids online safety act” (KOSA). If you don’t want to upload your ID to every single website you ever need to use, call her office and tell her this is bullshit.
Voted 🗳️ Don’t forget to take your ballots to a drop box by 8pm today, Seattle.
“I’m going to buy this company and make the company directly reimburse that cost” should absolutely be illegal.
EA officially goes private tonight, meaning: - EA will no longer trade on the NASDAQ for the first time in 36 years - All stockholders of EA (including many employees) will receive $210/share - EA will take on $18 billion (!) in debt, putting it on the hook to pay ~$1.8 billion/year in interest
I don't know why people aren't more freaked out about the water systems cyberattacks either. Maybe it's because they're not seeing any evidence of it, and/or they don't understand what a cyberattack can do. But apparently it's at least a dozen states now. abcnews.com/US/12-states...
At least 12 states face cyberattacks on their water systems, sources say
Possible cyber intrusions targeting water and wastewater utilities have now been reported in at least a dozen states, multiple sources told ABC News.

Email from Kaiser - “Adults may benefit from using an N95 mask if they must be outdoors. This helps protect you from unhealthy air. Masks must be properly fitted. Masks and cloth face coverings that help slow the spread of COVID-19 aren’t effective for smoke.” That last sentence - wtf.
'You'll choke too' - an aerial embroidery landscape inspired by all the wildfires happening right now... I'm upset every time I smell smoke outside and somehow we have people starting them maliciously too! But we all breathe the same air so they'll choke too (1/2 - see thread for close-ups)
always fun when the AQI and the temperature are the same number
Excuse me? Thanks for your purchase, here’s a nice strip of BPA for you??!
fwiw: receipts on receipts "Studies have found that individual thermal receipts can contain BPA that is 250 to 1,000 times greater than the amount in a can of food."

If you’re outside, the best breathing protection is to wear an N95 or N100 mask. These masks filter out most fine particles in smoke, but not hazardous gases like carbon monoxide. Avoid strenuous outdoor activity. #wawildfire #wawx
Smoke has arrived in Seattle, but the other side of the Cascades is absolutely brutal. Wenatchee and other towns (e.g., Plain, Entiat) have been over 1,000 AQI today. Please use air purifiers, N95 masks, and avoid being outdoors if you’re able - there is no safe level of wildfire smoke exposure.
It's National Night Out! Be aware: there are dozens of block parties taking place on residential streets across Seattle tonight thanks to the Seattle Police Department & your neighbors. See a map of where block parties are planned: https://www.seattle.gov/police/crime-prevention/night-out
I swear to God, part of the problem of literacy is that we make kids read SO MANY books like this. Of course they’re going to associate reading with misery! We put them in a Skinner box and shock them when they read, what did people THINK would happen?
Having ranted about school curriculum books, I’ve just seen my son’s summer reading list, and all I can say is “I was right”. A more depressing collection would be tricky to assemble. Are we actively trying to convey to kids the idea that reading is dismal and arduous?
Minneapolis, I'm going to be in your city later this week! Anyone want to ride bikes? Apart from childhood trips directly to the Mall of America, this will be my first time actually getting to explore Minneapolis.

Chipalo Street using AI to “research” is going to lose him my vote. Can’t trust your judgement if I can’t trust your sources! His opponent’s response to whether she used AI: Hell no!
Ballots due to the ballot box by Tuesday at 8pm. Vote rainbow. 🏳️🌈 (Not a great slate of options to be honest)
I still find it amazing that nobody on this app is talking about Melissa Chaudhry, a white woman in Seattle who converted to Islam when she married an Arab man, who is running for office and said in an on-the-record interview that she wasn't going to champion LGBT rights as a Democrat because Islam.

The Marymoor Connector Trail is closed just east of the East Lake Sammamish Trail through the end of Aug 5 for “emergency repairs,” says King County Park. There is no official detour even though there are several easy detour options in the area.

From WSJ’s “Rumble Seat” review of the RAV4: “I also want to acknowledge the heroes who delivered on high-speed wind noise. The squarish contours offered a thousand places for whistling and buffeting to hide. And yet, at 80 mph, wind noise is reduced to a lulling hush.” That is BAD! Very, very bad!
And if you are angry about the Covid revisionism about the first year of the pandemic that’s happening in Congress and on news shows, consider whether you’ve done some revising of your own in the second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth years.
WA state people, we need to stomp this anti-trans ballot initiative into the ground.
An initiative on the ballot in Washington state in November would require all athletes seeking to play girl's sports from kindergarten to high school to undergo "genetic screening, a testosterone-levels test, or an examination of their reproductive anatomy" before they can play
I am extremely glad that my boss continues to find it funny when I need to swat a cat’s tail out of my face mid-meeting.
Didn’t you used to be able to tap on a hashtag and mute it directly?
I think it's unfair that Lake Washington Boulevard has played host to Seafair and Blue Angels for so long. Other parts of the city deserve to pay host to this amazing tradition!
Just thinking about how beautiful the Blue Angels would be over Union Bay. And all that parking available at UW and Magnuson Park. Would be an amazing place for Seafair.
