I, uh… wow. Saw the trailer in theaters a while back, and somehow caught no whiff of this (super weird) premise. I just assumed the line about “legally allowed” was a joke, and it was set on Valentine’s Day or something. 🤷♂️
i'm locked in on this film sorry to anyone else
Nolan’s Odyssey is not Homer’s Odyssey, and that’s cool, IMO. I think it’s interesting to dig into what the storyteller is trying to say by telling *this* story in *this* way at *this* time.
You actually don't have to do the "well, you know, I disagree with MAHA but they're right that there are real problems with The System" thing. That's a concession you absolutely do not have to make.
There are a THOUSAND different things that can affect the popularity of movie genres and the waning and resurfacing of cultural trends - but NONE of them are more powerful or more overlooked than human aging and the chronological passage of TIME. Those are undefeated.
it’s never a great sign for your society when all the competent people who believe in doing a good job for the sake of it conclude that they’re actively being punished for these qualities, while malignantly stupid criminals are making bank
Yes, stupid immoral assholes have done far too well for basically forever, but right now, it feels like being a stupid immoral asshole has become the ONLY way to do well. That is a problem.
Everything I consume, books, video games, especially movies, I want to like them. We're on the same side. I want to clap my hands when the Dove flies out of the hat. Being on social media has taught me this is, apparently, a super power.
#LetterboxdFriday… on a Saturday! Here are my #LastFourWatched. All first time watches, two off my personal shame list.
nice joke, lol, reminds me of this unrelated political thing i can’t stop talking about
"Transformers Age of the Primes: Shockwave" If I had a nickel for every time Shockwave stole the body of a Prime.. (Reposts appreciated as always! :D)

My hot take is that Godwin's Law has been an unmitigated disaster for online discourse because actually there are Nazis and it's worth talking about them. Thinking of them as the most evil thing ever that will never be reached again is harmful folly.
if I ever taught film criticism lesson one would be “you being smarter than the movie is not interesting to anyone”

Someone complained that I've been posting about cats too much lately. So naturally, tonight's Low Quality Ad is for this Moon Cat Blanket. Keep the complaints coming pal, there's more where this came from. collabs.shop/5iws6n
This week's new Spoon, now with 100% more Grimlock. My inner 12-year-old is all aflutter.

Opposite of Boss Baby guy. Guy who has only watched Knocked Up, seeing humor in a movie that doesn't have Seth Rogen acting as his own laugh track: *stares blankly*
Agreed. Also, I'm old enough to remember The Blair Witch Project being a legit cultural phenomenon back when there was still some semblance of monoculture, and big ol' blockbusters kept ticking along just fine. I dug Obsession and Backrooms (and Iron Lung!) quite a bit, but... c'mon.
Propaganda I'm not falling for is that Obsession and Backrooms "re-invigorated the horror genre after years of slop!" as if Sinners and Weapons didn't come out last year. Michael B. Jordan and Amy Madigan literally won Oscars for their performances in those movies. SYBAU
