A big trans rights hindrance is cis people refuse to believe things could have happened without them being aware. On the right, "You never heard of transgender five years ago!", every five years, for 40 years. On the left, it being "too fast" to have rights in 2026 we had in the 10s, or 00s, or 80s.
Gary Alexander@garyalexander.bsky.social · 2d agoI am a critic of incrementalism. But even if you aren't, the logic of incrementalism only functions if movement is forward, not backward. It fundamentally cannot apply to what is presently happening to trans rights.

We must, if we want trans advocacy to work, want a trans advocacy that sees transition as a good thing in and of itself, that desires more trans people in the world. And we must demand this from our allies.

No, I don't think that "we do change sex" will magically fix everything currently wrong with trans advocacy and cis receptiveness to trans issues, but we do need a more affirmative articulation of trans existence than "Please Respect Our Right to Play Dress-Up" which is the current understanding.

Here's the fundamental thing: even many orgs advocating for us struggle to spotlight harm against us as an issue worth taking seriously. I'm sure it's a combination of voter apathy and organizer apathy towards us reinforcing each other, but the result is that harm against trans people never matters.
you are only allowed to post one "LMAO BOTTOM SURGERY FOR EVERYBODY" per congressional democrat you can get to say on the record publicly and unambiguously that they support young trans people's access to HRT and surgery and trans athletes' rights to play sports from kindergarten through pro leagues

It's better to go through a puberty that is wrong for you out of your own choice than to go through one that is wrong for you out of someone else's choice. One is a sexualised, traumatising invasion of bodily autonomy over a period of years and the other is an oopsie daisy.
