In the meantime, the billionaires and techbros pushing AI on everything you do are doing their very best so their kids and family stay away from it, since they know how gross and brain damaging it is to integrate it in your life.

Generative AI relies on people's lack of empathy to thrive, as long as it not your ass in the line, it's okay, right? Artists can adapt, musicians, writers, actors and voice actors can all adapt, but god forbid if it starts threatening to replace you.

cynical take - 1mil at 70USD is 70 mil. chop off 30% for platform fees, now we're 49mil. Assume the publisher is 100% recoup, that's 9 mil. Then the split after... let's be GENEROUS and say 50/50. Final income for 1mil sales is: * $4.5mil for studio * $44.5mil for pub * $21mil for platform holders

NEW: The hit RPG Blood of Dawnwalker cost $40 million to make — just a fraction of today’s AAA games. It’s already sold more than 1 million copies. I spoke to the Polish studio Rebel Wolves about their development journey: www.bloomberg.com/news/newslet...

this is all a bit heady but I post this because I want to combat the doomerism I keep seeing. AI is not built for actual use, it's an experiment that opportunistic tech bros sold as a way to circumvent paying employees. simply by being used as designed it destroys itself. does this make sense?

yknow how I always say that AI is always going to collapse in on itself without new material to steal and train on? just by using it, its users train the AI. If there's no new material coming in, that training gets more and more insular and it all falls apart: www.nature.com/articles/s41...

AI models collapse when trained on recursively generated data - Nature

Analysis shows that indiscriminately training generative artificial intelligence on real and generated content, usually done by scraping data from the Internet, can lead to a collapse in th...

Hannah is 100% correct here. A lot of people in the industry don't even fully know what marketing IS, and thats fine, its not your discipline, but its not an afterthought you can start once you're done building the game. You can start as early as pre-production!

It is my humble duty to explain: The parts of marketing that are super visible, like ARGs, flashy stands at Gamescom, or deluxe boxes of merch sent to creators are lovely. but they're the tip of the iceberg of what marketing work is, and they don't do anything without the foundations:

"Your brains stop developing at age 25" was a press misrepresentation of a study. They wanted to see if brains continued to develop after adolescence, so the study was capped at age 25. A later study with a wider subject pool showed that brains are ALWAYS developing our whole lives.

this is why it's my pet peeve fake science fact. It's absolute bs! nothing happens to brains at age 25, they do not "fully mature". you will notice that many societies have an age of majority or coming-of-age or whatever and none of them have ever chosen mid-20s.
