Its good actually when Democrats come together after a primary and acknowledge that Republicans are actually the real threat and should be kept out of office at all costs.
Been here too long to count as new on site anymore

no matter what happens here, I think the American electorate might be less predictable than any I've seen in the entire world. This doesn't even make sense anymore.
Just very depressing to me that this sincerity, honesty, and clarity is a huge electoral risk while muttering the same three slogans over and over again forever is savvy campaigning with a proven track record of success.
El-Sayed: "I believe in equal rights to peace, dignity, and self-determination, for Palestinians and Jewish Israelis alike... If that’s 2 states, I’m for it. If it’s 1 state, I’m for that. If it’s this 'land for all' model, ... or whatever they decide." www.newyorker.com/news/the-new...
In practice this means New Atheism was just wierdly whiny because it’s like an anti Islamophobia campaign run by a guy who lives in Bangladesh fancifully insisting Bangladesh is Islamophobic
I think this correct but 1) the way in which New Atheism is correct is that *in the US* atheists are a minority facing systemic discrimination in a way we’d easily recognise if any other 25% of the population had no Congresspeople 2) in tbe UK this isn’t true at all 3) Dawkins is British
r/atheism was like 75% correct and 25% incorrect at worst btw.
Right, identity issues beyond class are inevitably class issues themselves; if you are, for instance, a trans individual, your class prospects will depend partially on whether anti-discrimination laws protect your employment status equally.
The past few years have been an explicit test of two theories of how to win back AfD voters: first, the CDU just needed to pivot to the hard right under Merz and second that the Linke as a party was too woke and needed to turn to workerist anti-migrant nationalism via BSW. Both failed.
The latest poll for Saxony-Anhalt has the far-right at 41%. If some of the smaller parties (SPD, Greens, BSW) don't clear the threshold to enter parliament, the far-right may gain an absolute majority in September.
"I have made two of the most right wing freaks in the world bend the knee to a liberal Black woman based on their commitment to a democratic system of government" was pretty solid!
actually better than a lot of Europe because nobody's going to steal your phone or pick your pocket
that's why conservatives terrified of new york are one of my farote phenomena. new york has been one of the safest parts of the US for what, 20 years? i think it's the only major US city that's like Vacation Europe level safe
One struggled to have sympathy for people who so obviously failed to grasp the fundamental nature of Trump.
Trump “came up with a completely false quote saying I acknowledged things I never said. “My god." — Brad Karp, then the chairman of the law firm 2/2
When pressed on how to keep schools open, Nate Silver suggested hazard pay but couldn't seem to figure out what happens when you run out of people who are willing to get sick and possibly die at work. So much punditry really boils down to a guy going "oh no not like that."
This is what I mean when I talk about the Fantasy of the Optional Pandemic, where the virus was erased from the equation and mitigation measures were always portrayed as an avoidable choice. Headlines about what actually happened are never even acknowledged.
One drum I keep beating is that the Trumpification of the Republican Party is irreversible. Even after he's gone it will be exclusively cranks, charlatans, and malevolent antisocial goons. "It was always like that"-it wasn't! It's gotten steadily, measurably worse, and he was the nail in the coffin
New, from me: It is fine to disagree with aspects of the pandemic response. But what we saw at Fauci's hearing was something different: a show trial where cranks tried to threaten and shift blame to an public servant. Here is why this is bad for all of us.🧵 donmoynihan.substack.com/p/watching-t...
yeah we gotta just ban the short form video platforms if they exist to blenderize loosely understood concepts from sociology and history into conspiracy-brained rants about how starbucks exists to neuter the revolutionary class
3rd spaces and revolution.
JKR is a one person case for not just a wealth tax but actually a wealth tax that starts quite low on the net worth scale
like they will genuinely start ripping the wiring out of institutions to figure out how Dems won 2026
i think it is increasingly likely that Dems have a shot at winning both houses of Congress that being said: i think that the right will go insane, especially if long shot states swap
cannot overstate how much of people being put off of AI is specifically copilot’s fault
Consider yourself warned: Microsoft is about to supercharge Copilot: “Copilot is evolving rapidly from chat to Cowork to autopilots...one super app spanning both consumer and commercial experience." Via Gizmodo
All the Fauci stuff is a modern day version of the POW/MIA stuff after Vietnam - a way to try to rewrite the history of a huge failure of conservative ideology to be instead a story about how liberals and foreigners stabbed us in the back.
There was no vaccine for the first few months and it was a miracle that one was made available. And even with this miracle more Americans died in the pandemic than in the Civil War, miss me with all of the bullshit about how it was no big deal
Trick question, because the boundaries we draw around *all* neurodevelopmental disorders are in fact social constructs.

Channel 4 has announced documentary “The Great ADHD Myth?” It “seeks to determine whether ADHD is a genuine neurodevelopmental disorder, or a social construct.”
Revenge for MeToo (which severely constrained their ability to rape employees), Revenge for Black Lives Matter (which called out how racist many of them were) and most of all Revenge for the 2021 Labor Market where they suddenly had to compete for scarce labor instead of the other way around
the liberal american attitude to ethnic minorities is basically to try to pretend that public policy should not engage with culture and language at all which is not how most democratic countries deal with this

I have watched this 10 times and it gets funnier every time. The most accurate Québec radio impression ever! 😂
at least I understand why many republicans oppose statehood (they don’t want what will very likely be left-leaning senators and representatives), but anti-statehood lefties just crack me up
Is Darializa Avila Chevalier even aware that the majority of Puerto Ricans aren't interested in independence for a variety of reasons?
Becoming a conspiracy theorist that Wu and Hochul switched freaky Friday style sometime in 2025
it’s pretty remarkable how one of Zohran’s COGE proposals is to streamline construction of bus and bike lanes while Michelle Wu is doing the literal opposite, bogging them down in red tape for some reason
In no meaningful sense were any of these people “lied to.” They just appear to have had a private alternative version of reality running in their heads.
Marge regrets voting for Trump
Je disais en Janvier dernier que le kidnapping de Maduro était fait en complicité avec la dictature locale et que le Venezuela allait rester pareil, simplement alligné avec Trump. Cette semaine, le Venezuela s'est retiré de la Cour pénale internationale.
