In the end, why we still have COVID denialists is because the crisis laid bare who people were. Who gave a shit about their community and who didn't. Who was right about medicine and science and who was wrong. Who was acting in good faith and who was just grifting.

Cyclists have a right to use the roadway already, by law. Whether or not some break the law (as do motorists), why do their rights require “acceptance” by drivers in cars at all?

Me: "where did the bathroom scale go?" Wife: "it's in the linen closet. Its on a time-out." Me: "ummm, why?" Wife: "I didn't like it's attitude. It stays there until it can behave properly." Me:

Two rides in two days, 25 days after dying! July 5th I had a sudden cardiac arrest known as 'The Widowmaker'. Was clinically dead for 20+ minutes while my son and a friend performed CPR until EHS arrived and resuscitation me. 1. Teach your kids CPR!! 2. Get checked for coronary artery disease!

Riding bikes is 10X more important than electric cars for reaching net-zero cities. And that’s just the climate emissions. Doesn’t include the massive public & personal cost difference, the air & noise pollution difference, the massive space difference, etc, etc…Via @theconversation.bsky.social

Cycling is ten times more important than electric cars for reaching net-zero cities

Active travel can help tackle the climate crisis earlier than electric vehicles – even if you swap the car for a bike for just one trip a day.

“Our politicians haven’t done enough to ensure that cycling deaths don’t occur on our streets.” Meghan Doucette has been posting some great videos on Instagram since Dr. Nouman Ali’s tragic death by dooring. She also submitted this opinion piece to The Coast that’s absolutely worth a read:

Cycling infrastructure saves lives - The Coast | News, events, restaurants, concerts and Burger Week for Halifax, Nova Scotia

When I opened Instagram on Monday night and saw the screenshot saying that a person cycling had been killed in Halifax, I felt deeply sad, but I was also angry. Many people I know and care about have ...

NEW: I wrote for MSNBC about how Madison Square Garden turning off their facial recognition cameras for Taylor Swift is a perfect encapsulation of our dystopian present: where the wealthy can use surveillance to consolidate power, and the rest of us live in a privately owned panopticon.

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce got to buy MSG's privacy. Her fans aren't so lucky.

Reports that Madison Square Garden temporarily shut off its facial recognition system for Swift’s wedding expose a glaring problem with how the elite wield and control mass surveillance.

We’re using the word e-bike to describe too many things. Electric assist bikes are a version of bike & have many public interest benefits. But vehicles being driven by food delivery app drivers aren’t a form of bike…they’re a form of motorcycle. They don’t belong on sidewalks or pedestrian streets.

Picture of food delivery app driver, one of many, I see each day on downtown Vancouver’s Granville Street pedestrian zone. It’s a motor vehicle, and doesn’t belong on a vehicle-prohibited pedestrian street like Granville Street, and definitely not on sidewalks either.

🧵 Dear Republican lawmakers, Canada has the largest intact boreal forest on the planet. An increasingly hotter world due to #ClimateChange makes longer dry seasons, far larger wildfires & yes, more smoke. No amount of "raking" fixes it. The scientists warned of exactly this for a very long time /1

"If Canada can't get these wildfires under control, they need to face real consequences," said Wisconsin state Rep. Calvin Callahan in a news release Wednesday. "We won't sit back while our air becomes a health hazard."

“…the Government of Canada today announced the immediate launch of the Forest Undergrowth Clearing & Kindling Operation for Foreign Friends Initiative.” Someone just loves acronyms. :-) (search for it for a Sunday laugh)

Public safety ad on France TV for the Tour spectators, theme is "you wouldn't want to be disrupted when you're doing something difficult, so don't do it to the riders" 😂
