weird how men built societies in which women could only access basic resources through men and are now trying to return us to that while also complaining that women who try to access resources through men are gold diggers

We penalize women for perceived anger, something interesting about THIS is that there's some evidence it's non-responsive to *status* (eg authority doesn't soften this), we attribute women's reactions more to internal characteristics and men's to circumstances journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1111/...

“Like other Haitians losing #TPS, they now face an agonizing choice: Try to stay in the US and find underground work, constantly fearful of being caught by [ICE] agents. Or return to a nation so overwhelmed by gang violence and poverty that some feel deportation is tantamount to a death sentence.”

“In Salisbury, the Eastern Shore’s biggest city, about 10% of the 33,000 residents are Haitian, many of them employed under #TPS as farmworkers, caregivers and in the poultry plants that are the region’s economic backbone.”

Hey, folks. There's a @gofundme.com set up for artist Andy Fish, who is going through a very tough fight with two forms of cancer. He and his wife, cartoonist Veronica Fish (my Blackwood series cohorts) could use some help during this very tough time. I'm donating, hope you can. tinyurl.com/4wa86a6c

It's demoralizing living in a nonstop Abuse-a-thon: we've had to learn the sordid details of so many men's abhorrent behavior; I mean this summer has been Graham Platner, Andrew Tate, Jared Leto, Max Miller, plus the horrific L.A. rape-murder of the child by the rapper, to name a few lowlights.

This is another way we live in rape culture; we live in a culture where we have to hear about monstrosity all the time. Sometimes I look at those top stories lists and wonder if I'm the only one who notices that two or three or four of the ten are about violence against women.

Once a rat knows something, they will KNOW IT FOREVER. You will never distract them from it. They will constantly try it to see if they can do it again, and will test the system looking for weaknesses. They will teach each other a thing and even train humans to do what they want. They're very smart!

'You'll choke too' - an aerial embroidery landscape inspired by all the wildfires happening right now... I'm upset every time I smell smoke outside and somehow we have people starting them maliciously too! But we all breathe the same air so they'll choke too (1/2 - see thread for close-ups)

An embroidery hoop containing a sewn landscape from above. It shows a forest on the right, a line of fire and charred ground with smoke on the left. The smoke is felted wool.

2/2 The close-ups of my wildfire embroidery. I tried to get a glowing effect with the fire and embers with colours I chose. I cut up my favourite cardigan for the rough charred ground as it was the only fabric I had with the right colour and texture but its not needed in this heat anyway...

Last week, I visited Juniper Blessing’s memorial and met with trans students at UW to hear their experiences and the fear they felt after her killing. Trans people deserve to live as their full, authentic selves. I will continue to fight in Congress for them to do just that.

Rep. Jayapal in a green blazer looking at a memorial for Juniper Blessing filled with various items, including a large trans pride flag, drawings, flowers, and numerous stuffed toys. A sign reads "Protect Trans Kids" amidst other supportive messages.Rep. Jayapal listening to UW students discuss their experiences and the fear they felt after Juniper Blessing's killing. Rep. Here's the proper framing on this. "Following the intentional dismantling of most of the US government food safety surveillance program, a company that prioritized profits over providing toilet facilities for its farm workers has murdered 2 Americans with a preventable parasitic infection."

Breaking News: Two deaths in Michigan have been linked to cyclospora. Both people who had the parasite also had underlying health issues.
