Honestly, I love Nolan's Odysseus. The choice to reimagine the whole journey as a punishment, by himself and by the gods, for his violation of the laws of hospitality is inspired. It helps hold the story together even as the pieces of the episodic structure start to grind together.
James@gravitysra1nbow.bsky.social · 2w agoIf I’ve a complaint about the Odyssey it’s honestly that Nolan softens Odysseus way too much. He has Hector’s infant baby thrown off the walls of Troy and hangs all of his maids. He’s definitely not the type of guy to tell Penelope that she can remarry.
I think people who do not work in media have trouble grasping how genuinely terrifying it is watching organization after organization (even those ostensibly held by entities able to fund them!) continually get carved down into nothing. Lights going out all over

My worry is you hit a cultural inflection point where kids who would never previously have even considered cheating, who DO care about education, look at how ubiquitous AI cheating is & decide they’ll be suckers & disadvantaged if they don’t also.

There has always been a divide between those who care about education for its own sake and those who only care about grades, but AI will worsen this divide, leaving fewer people with the ability to do causal reasoning.
There's a lot of concern about the impact that LLMs are having on developing minds, and not nearly enough discussion that it might be corroding the brains of our elderly legislators.

I think the most underestimated source of elite radicalisation is that ordinary people can call you a moron directly when you say stupid shit online. Sends wealthy and powerful people in to spirals every time.
