This was a fascinating exercise: find out what went wrong with creativity in the games industry. The conclusion: there are too many cowards controlling too many critical levers, and until we figure out how to put people -taste, creativity, and craft- back at the top, we're going to be stuck.

Man, the timelessness of Falcom's texture work during its Windows 98/XP days never fails to put me in my happy place. So clean and pristine, yet still full of character even at resolutions nobody realistically played these games at on release. Some of my favorite stuff of this vintage. 😌
