I have a theory about how many of the world's problems are caused by people who were told they were the smartest people alive as kids, believed it, and then when they became adults and couldn't accept that maybe they weren't that special, started breaking shit if only to prove they were special
Faine Greenwood@faineg.com · 21h agolike I suspect many of you on This Website, I think a core reason why I find Eliezer Yudkowsky and his rationalist and effective altruist satellites so intensely annoying is because I had a VERY similar “being a super weird, pretentious, hyper-literate kid” experience - I just, you know, grew up.
On one hand, I am in my 30s. On the other, I work in a high school. I've not heard a single person mention this song or artist until this discourse blew up.

Vought is breaking the law but he is not “going rogue.” At his confirmation hearings, Vought told Republicans he would do this and they voted for him anyway. If they want to stop him, they still can via impeachment. They won’t.

I’m sorry, what? This piece was not a joint publication/ reporting job (as some are). It was @propublica’s alone and the Times followed with a summary. This is so indicative of NYT. If they don’t ignore proper credit, they just go for stolen valor.

This is not true. Only a handful of Nazis were hanged for their crimes and the Nuremberg Trials wrapped up because the governments lost interest. This is why postwar Nazis quickly reestablished far right parties across Europe in the 1940s and 1950s. Including in Germany and Austria.

However (you rightly) feel about Arnold as a human, as a governor etc. He was raised (literally and culturally) by people who had been Nazis. He saw their impact firsthand. He knew ball.

I was reading a thing about how a lot of translators end up making his speech a lot more coherent and less hateful There was apparently a bit of a scandal in Poland when a translator opted to include his rambling, abrupt topic changes and everything more accurately and Polish cons freaked out
