In the mid-20th century, auto and oil interests bought up electric streetcar systems across the US and systematically replaced them with bus routes and paved roads, funneling commuters toward private cars.
it’s also a sign that they still don’t know why they won in 24. they think there’s a giant mass of brain-fried voters who picked trump because of the lab leak theory and not because of inflation — and because they can’t get the president to spend 5 minutes pretending to care about inflation.

Today I saw a driver travel several blocks with an orange construction barrel jammed under their front bumper. They did not seem aware at all. I also saw a lawn crew park several vehicles and a trailer on the sidewalk - even though there was street parking a few feet away.

All normalized and barely noticed.
