I do think the lighter touch regulatory stance we advocate for comes with an accepting of the fact that some bad things are going to happen.

It's some real "when you expose a problem you pose a problem" stuff tbh. Trans people stating that they won't vote for transphobic candidates become identified with the problem of that candidate losing.

At times it has even seemed a productive thought exercise, but I think generally whatever body has demanded the justification is not really open to being persuaded of anything.
don't get me wrong, there *are* things a new linux user may have trouble adjusting to, but more than once i've had replies from people saying that i'm asking too much of the average user for saying stuff like you can install a browser from the command line pretty easily if you want

What I’m seeing is: being very vocal about the damage thar hateful bigot worm person JK Rowling has done to the world in her pursuit of eradicating trans people is damaging the Harry Potter brand. So definitely keep doing that.
If GenAI was everything they claimed it was, they wouldn't need to do this, people would be clamouring for it, but they're not. The deception and brute force approaches are damning.
