Too much (re)posting on politics. Would rather focus on Africa, history, religion, music, SF, NBA. Pacers my team; 5x5 my favorite stat line. Hoosier in WV. ICE and AI abolitionist. Physical media enthusiast. I have friends everywhere.

It is very obvious that she was chosen because (a) they hate her and hate the Somali people and (b) she was perfectly calculated to be the person that the Dems are least likely to stand up for, GIVEN THAT THEY HAVE ALREADY NOT STOOD UP FOR HER.

This story makes it sound like the major problem is that the Trump Admin did this w/in 60 days of an election. Yes, that's a real abuse. But the major problem is they're basically threatening to denaturalize an opposition legislator, based on racist insinuations. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/12/u...

Federal Agents Search Home of Rep. Ilhan Omar (Gift Article)

The search takes place within the 60-day window of the midterm elections, when the Justice Department has historically avoided such investigative steps related to political candidates.

I do not think anybody is missing what the movie is about! It tells you multiple times! But (to paraphrase Ebert), a movie is not what it is about but how it is about it. The "how" drives a lot of people up the wall here.

the WNBA finals is gonna be a real contrast of where the WNBA is coming from and where it's headed. One team forced to play in a 3,000-seat G-League venue because "Sombr" has a concert, the other team filling an 18,000-seater to the top with some of the loudest fans in hoops

Barring any last-second changes, Game 3, 4 and 6 of the WNBA Finals in Atlanta will be played at Gateway Center Arena (3,500+ seats), multiple sources tell USA TODAY. Efforts to move games to State Farm Arena (17,000 seats) have proved unsuccessful.

“It’s just not what we do in this country” means “it’s not what you’re allowed to do if you’re a Democrat”, the mainline of the Republican Party has been calling every ordinary benign good-governance Democrat Hitler-Stalin-bin Laden-Hussein-Beelzebub 9000 since before I was fucking born

He has zero chance of winning as a Republican even if Dave McCormick endorses Fetterman and we should all be saying that. Fetterman is stupid to believe otherwise. But Republican elites have a very strong motivation to deceive him about this: they want him to switch parties for 2027-28

the formative moments for the various deans of american political commentary were 1984 and 1994. nothing can break the conviction that republicans are the natural governing majority of the country.

This article tries to make a case for "all politicians" being under threat, when the vast majority of this violence comes from the far right, whose rhetoric and actions have fueled the trend (exponentially boosted by Trump). No mention of the environment or the roots of all this. It "just happened."

A massive, and massively underrated, threat to a functioning democracy. (gift link) www.nytimes.com/2026/10/11/u...

Of course Gore actually won the popular vote in 2000, as Hillary Clinton did in 2016, which is why the Electoral college needs to be abolished (most countries that tried something similar have scrapped it). The King of Corruption won by a plurality in 2024, which is why we need ranked-choice voting
