"The Flydubai co-pilot who tried to hijack a flight to Tel Aviv is a former cryptocurrency speculator who four years ago was living with his parents and calling women “rotten meat” on a now disabled social media account. " And guess where that account was

Flydubai pilot was deep into manosphere content, routinely used derogatory sexual slurs about women, and wanted a tradwife Misogyny is a gateway drug www.ft.com/content/a92b...

This is just a relentlessly horrific story. It’s hard to adequately contextualize the moral desolation of this unfolding in the midst of a midterms against a ruling party helmed by inveterate rapists and rape apologists. www.phoenixnewtimes.com/news/congres...

Congressional candidate is raped while repairing her campaign signs

Embarrassed, she initially didn’t want to report attack. Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office's investigation is ongoing. A Phoenix New Times exclusive.

Someone like Sam Schwartz should really know better. This is an incredibly stupid thing to say. Ebikes and escooters are the BEST tools we have for improving safety, by actually enticing people on to micromobility. To say nothing of the environmental benefits of light electric vehicles.

These guys keep imagining a Benevolent Dictator that exists solely in their own heads because they imagine it to be them personally, and they can’t shake the juvenile fantasy that if everyone was forced to obey them personally all problems (namely people defying them) would be solved

Gil Durán@gilduran.com · 3d ago

“Democracy has been hailed as, like, the holy grail for the last couple hundred years, but democracies are inefficient,” said the crypto billionaire. “If you get a benevolent dictator, it’s actually extremely efficient." Hmm, where have I heard this before? www.nytimes.com/2026/10/01/b...

this is all a joke to them because far-right conservatives think that rape is good, and that high status men should be entitled to rape any women around them who are not also already attached to other high-status men. this is their actual ideology

Alan Elrod@aselrod.bsky.social · 3d ago

One of the most heinous examples is Matt Walsh suggesting that, actually, Jane Doe raped the frat boys because they were also under the influence. I thought it bore a certain resemblance to some of Andrew Johnson’s comments on slavery. www.liberalcurrents.com/the-illusion...

But Walsh isn't satisfied with victim blaming. He goes so far as to assert that, given the consumption of drugs and alcohol, the fraternity boys couldn't possibly be held responsible themselves:

I'm not kidding when I say that the Cornell frat guys should file a counter suit accusing the woman of raping them. According to her own testimony, some of the men were drunker than she was. By her logic, and the logic of her supporters, they were even less capable of consent. She was the rapist in that case. There's no way out of our current madness except by holding feminists to their own standards.

The same people who are still furious about having to show a vaccine card for a few months in 2021 are completely fine with U.S. citizens being detained and assaulted without due process by a partisan secret police force with no standards or accountability.

ProPublica@propublica.org · 2d ago

The government *still* isn’t tracking how often immigration agents detain U.S. citizens. We are. 500+ Americans have been handcuffed, held at gunpoint or held against their will in Trump’s second term. Our tally is almost certainly an undercount. THREAD (content warning: violence) ⬇️

I think this is a fundamental misunderstanding of the problem at hand. The issue is not people who feel that their lives are empty and meaningless. It is precisely the opposite: people who yearn for a perfectly comfortable and empty life and lash out at the countless frustrations of existence.

Snowden St.@snowden.st · 4d ago

This feels dead on. To raise a bit of a prompt: what do people think is the alternative to present to people who say “my life feels empty”? A. “Don’t look to politics for it” B. “You have no reason to/shouldn’t feel that way” C. “We have a better way to find meaning” D. Don’t care about these votes

Truly incredible that this is how the media is choosing to eulogize the longest-serving Republican Speaker of the House in US history, who was a serial sexual abuser of children. For all the talk about "deep state" plots to abuse children, no one even remembers this case.

From CBS News: "Former Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert, who represented Illinois for two decades in Congress and was later jailed for violating banking laws, has died."

not to go full gen x hose drinker on you, but we walked to school on our own & were allowed to go to the library by ourselves when i was 5 & my sister was 8. the norfolk public library in our neighborhood was the one on hampton blvd. we loved it! it’s sad kids aren’t free to roam anymore.

Fietser@americanfietser.bsky.social · 3d ago

Our built infrastructure robs kids of their freedom of independent mobility. Streets are dominated by oversized vehicles, piloted by aggressive and distracted drivers where one mistake can turn lethal. We sacrificed child development to subsidize the auto industry.

Think about the core tenets of American conservatism: a government serving 300 million people and leading the world should be “small” and that we should orient all policy around servicing the rich so that they throw us gruel. It’s fucking stupid and we should say so.

Oliver Willis@owillis.bsky.social · 4d ago

The biggest democratic/liberal mistake of the last 50+ years has been operating like the right has anything to offer America. It was the fundamental problem with Bill Clinton to Obama and everyone in between

So, this very sympathetic piece where the subject is “a lifelong Democrat who had voted for Trump for the first time in 2024”. 5 minutes of checking his facebook shows pro Trump posts as far back as 2019, and a post saying that he “stands with Trump” posted just a couple of days after Trumps coup.

A Haitian man legally immigrated to Ohio, then was given an ankle monitor bc Trump withdrew his status. He threw himself in front of truck. The trucker, who voted for Trump, is haunted. “Pierre was doing what he was supposed to do. We did not do right by him.” www.theatlantic.com/politics/202...

The Department of Transportation has made its popular parallel bike lanes on 43rd and Skillman avenues in Queens even better by pouring concrete at key intersections to slow down turning vehicles and improve daylighting. Check it out in this latest from @streetfilms.bsky.social. buff.ly/JjQQvEP

“how do we win back trump voters in 2026” we don’t. we create an environment where admitting to voting for trump is so socially embarrassing as to render them completely inert. you don’t “win back” trump voters. you demoralize them into staying home. you make it a dunce cap

The arguments are incoherent and bogus but the racist right turning its lens on South Asians for being too successful and visible is a real phenomenon and should be forcefully countered

Listening to the racist podcast about the “Indian Question” and wow mediocre 2026 white guys jealous of an Indian with a tech job is very much the new mediocre Central Valley white guys in 1941 jealous of Japanese with a thriving farm.
