So many people on the internet have paper-thin politics that are just an excuse to create an out-group against whom violence is permitted; it’s a coin-flip whether the group is “professionals” or “immigrants”.
And now jorbs has...deleted every single post he's ever made on Bluesky rather than admit he was wrong. Amazing.
No other job works like this. If you said "As a teacher, I'm illiterate and therefore cannot comment on the quality of my students' essays," you would rightly be fired immediately.
It's so weird how "As Speaker of the House, I have no idea what's going on... Like, in general," is an effective way to deflect scandal rather than being a massive scandal in itself.

Christina Holland@mortalwombat.info · 2d agoData centers aren't new but the concept of a data center that can exist in the real world near you is new to a lot of people because they used to go up with no more fanfare then a warehouse but now they announce them as "your town's chance to be part of the AI revolution" which is kinda an own goal
I'm all for inventive adaptations of classic works (of which, A Christmas Carol has many), but "why is Scrooge like he is" is something that the book itself actually fucking answers

I take the middle path on data centers: We do need them, but they're light industrial and you don't want to put one in a neighborhood. They don't use infinite water, but you still should put them where there's an adequate existing water supply. They use electricity so we should mandate renewables.

The court agreed and sent him for treatment fo restore him to competency, which is the normal response He was found competent earlier this year and is awaiting trial now. The REASON (1/2)

We used to have nine, we now have thirteen. The people defending the current setup have the tougher case to make here.

Kind of surprised that we are not seeing more radical political ideas built around AI capabilities, the way that early mass industrialization was a prime motivator in the conceptions of capitalism, communism, and socialism.

it's really important to me to point out that in fact the medieval peasant did in fact run out of food, every year lots of them did starve, and less often but still often enough the peasantry in general ran out of food causing well known historic events
None of these people actually care about the millions dying from USAID ending. They find it hilarious, actually.
I think it's really neat how every time I point out that Piker traffics in antisemitic conspiracy theories, someone shows up to point out that it's not an antisemitic trope because he said the word "Israel" and not "Jews".
They’ll release the claim in ~25 days (meaning I’ll get the AdSense $ in late October) but in light of this horrible week and having already raised $75k for Imagination Library, I plan to donate the rest of the AdSense $ to the crisis in Nepal when it clears; I feel like it’s what Dolly would want.
