I am an omnivorous reader with a strangely retentive memory for trifles. she/her
It’s misogynist, patriarchal, white supremisist, Christian nationalism all the way down. And every inch we let them take just gives them an excuse to go fife the next mile.
This is where the current batch of anti-trans legislation leads. It attacks two issues simultaneously. 1) it goes after bodily autonomy and some of the same “logic” gets used against reproductive rights, and 2) it enforces patriarchal control over people’s role and presentation.
The Heritage Foundation/GOP believe tha women have basically 3 purposes, bear children, manage the household ( i.e. cook, clean, manage the kids) and do whatever the husband/man say. And if we don't change things starting in November, that's what women are headed back to.
Except for religious studies, the graduates of these "loan ineligible" majors are disproportionately women. Fans of this policy have probably never considered that social worker, cosmetician, teachers aide, etc might be low-paying jobs *because* women do them. newrepublic.com/post/213446/...
Sometimes I imagine what would be possible if there was an actual effort to promote good government from a functional opposition party
And now we have AP calls in both contests, with the GOP's amendments getting trounced
The U.S. Senate is about to advance the nomination of a man who has helped Trump unconstitutionally evade releasing the Epstein files, and tried to use federal funds to pay insurrectionists. If the purpose of the U.S. Senate is to defend against tyranny, it has failed in its purpose.
Whitehouse: "Today I think is a sad and embarrassing day for this committee as it looks like on a party-line vote we are going to advance out of this committee probably the most discreditable person ever to seek the office of attorney general. Let's start with the Epstein files ... "
the intentional abdication by Congress of nearly all of its constitutional responsibilities is at the core of most of our problems as a nation
Cornyn: "There's nothing we could do to rein in the president"
Call me crazy, but if a Democratic president had 350 accounts closed by their bank for money laundering it’d be more than a blip in the media

"don't make enough money" is a fig leaf All those degree programs--social work, art, etc.--have disproportionately female student bodies. This is designed to make it harder for women to attend college--college education being a key factor in women's autonomy from men & left-leaning voting pattern.
President Trump is banning students majoring in degrees that don’t make enough money from taking out college loans. Degrees for social work, art, religious studies, teaching aides, and music will be hit the hardest. trib.al/aaAEu6v
The new official history of slavery per the Trump administration
"Trump wants Americans to unlearn what they have come to know about the history and legacy of enslavement. What his executive orders really promise to restore is a sense of comfort contained in the most reductive and sanitized stories about the United States — the bliss of ignorance." --M. Gessen.
the thing about this absolutely blatant market manipulation is that it’s going to work until it stops working, and when it stops, a whole lot of shit is going to go very sideways very fast
just in time for the markets to open! it's a Sunday miracle!
It’s hard to explain but tv was better when you couldn’t watch the show you wanted whenever you wanted to watch it and most of the shows were worse and the TVs were worse and the entire experience was worse, that’s when it was better
The only other time a second-term president had approval ratings this low at this point in the cycle, he resigned a week later.
like clockwork, man, quick, put the war away before the markets come back from the weekend
Oil tumbles as Trump cancels attack on Iran to reach nuclear deal reut.rs/3TzpU26
It's absolutely insane we've somehow let the Covid recriminations debate become like "why didn't we reopen in person schools before there was a vaccine" and not "why did none of the trump guys go to jail for stealing PPE from New York hospitals in March 2020"
Things I and friends have done to calm an angry abusive man from further escalating and killing us or our children: -Smiled -Kept normal schedules in order not to trigger a fight -Appeased with kind acts (cooking, cleaning, favors) -Forced friendly tones and words
Rep. Max Miller: "My former wife has claimed that during a custody exchange at my home that day, I assaulted her…If I had assaulted her, would she have offered to cook me dinner six days later?"
Moreno should be asked: Why, if he has long felt Miller is this unwell & unfit, it took Moreno being publicly shamed for his silence, to finally speak out. Had the accusations not have gone public, would he have stayed mum & let Miller be reelected to Congress, even tho he felt Miller’s a monster?
senator bernie moreno finally makes a statement about the allegations of abuse by rep. max miller against his daughter and granddaughter after miller went live on X this morning to deny everything.
one policy debate we deserve but are never going to get to have is what demands to be done to make blue states and cities whole after this presidency
this absolute scumbag www.oregonlive.com/wildfires/20...
The diarrhea lettuce company, Taylor Farms, uses slave labor contracted from the Arizona Dept. of Corrections. The backbreaking labor is often performed by imprisoned Mexican nationals who would be otherwise ineligble to work in the US. They are paid $1.50 an hour.
The Diarrhea Lettuce Company Has Been Linked to Forced Labor
The lettuce-producing Taylor Farms was linked to the widespread use of prison labor before its involvement in a cyclospora outbreak.

the president of the united states regularly goes on incredibly embarrassing unhinged posting sprees full of AI slop and somehow the entire political system just reacts like the This Is Fine dog
I've been calling for It Happening on the toilet with his phone in his hand since the beginning of this nightmare
He ruined his life by accidentally becoming president. And the only way for him to fix it was to become president again. And we let him off the hook.
🚨 NEWS: In a new court filing, Capital One says Donald Trump’s accounts were closed in 2021 after months of analysis by its anti-money laundering (AML) professionals, not because of politics, as Trump has long claimed. 1/
This is deadass every republican campaign ad here in the south. I'm not even REMOTELY JOKING.
Imagine paying for insider trading early-access to Trump’s market moving “thoughts” and getting this — and then not shorting the entire market cause obviously we’re in crazy hands
Pathetic in so many ways.
whenever someone tells you that it's simply impossible for police to be charged with misconduct or criminal charges, you can tell they're wrong because some cops do get charged regularly — when they are whistleblowers or reformers prosecutors are actually extremely eager to help drum them out!
Prosecutors charged an LAPD officer with felony eavesdropping for making secret recordings of his colleagues’ racist, sexist and homophobic comments on the job
He will be asked once. He will say, "Who are you with?" He will declare it a stupid question and never be asked again.
And not a goddamn person will ask why the President yammered on like a fucking lunatic about vandals for a month and half WHEN THERE WERE NONE.
NORMAL PEOPLE: Every single one of these assholes told a dumb brazen lie to our faces and should never be trusted again. CORPORATE MEDIA: Thank you for coming back to chat with us, sir!
We could've made this montage of liars an hour long but you get the point
