“Culture of impunity” is right. The demand is to never hold public figures accountable for wrongdoing, not even verbally when they’re already beyond the reach of human accountability and won’t hear the criticisms and jokes. The legacy must be sanitized, or current elites might feel less impunity.

Mainstream Respectable opinion is that people joking about a bad person's death represents a culture of cruelty, but really it represents a culture of impunity. It's a coping mechanism for watching someone do evil their whole life and never seeing consequences

"Automobiles represent the dominance of private property over public space" seems like a sentence I should have heard decades ago because now that I have, it just seems incredibly obvious that is what they are.

Why are car-centric transport systems so difficult to undo? Because automobiles represent the dominance of private property over public space. In this @urbancyclinginstitute.org essay, I look to history to uncover how we got here. #StealingCars

Alarming story that confirms my own reporting along similar lines: Dan Moraff, the political strategist who plucked Graham Platner out of obscurity to run for senate and barely vetted him, was barred from Rep. Summer Lee’s 2022 campaign after three complaints of sexual misconduct.

Platner’s Daniel Moraff Barred from Summer Lee’s Campaign Over Sexual Misconduct Complaints

Congresswoman Summer Lee barred Platner's strategist Daniel Moraff from her campaign after receiving sexual harassment complaints against him.

Lemme explain what the words BELIEVE WOMEN should mean. They don't mean you have to believe women no matter what. They do mean that you have to treat women as a source the same way you'd treat a man.

if you only looked at the use of “working class” by people who opine on the democratic party’s “need to win back the working class” you would never suspect that every historically feminized profession is working-class

I truly fucked up not doing my due diligence on Platner before offering high praise for his communication skills. Enough was out there at the time that I should have been more cautious. Especially because I met adventurer dudes like him reporting in Iraq. Deep respect to all who got it right. 1/2

Heartbreaking hearing that the woman who Platner raped was hesitant to come forward because she agreed with his politics and didn’t want to damage the movement. If you didn’t already realize, this sort of thing happens a lot you just don’t usually hear about it

look i'm not saying Schoenberg was autistic, i'm just saying the guy who said "you have to use one of each note before repeating any" seems like the kind of guy who would sort his M&Ms by color

The human mind cannot comprehend this: “And if the launches were spaced perfectly evenly, the firing rate would no longer be in the realm of countable rhythm; it would be in the realm of pitch. The F above middle C vibrates at about 349 cycles per second. The show averages 354 events per second.“

Did you hear about the DC July 4 fireworks show? It promises 850,000 fireworks in 40 minutes. That's 354 per second. You'll miss up to 142 of them every time you blink. For your edutainment, I proudly present the nerdiest thing you will read about this dangerously absurd / absurdly dangerous event.

Massachusetts is about as pure of a distillation of America as you can get. It's where the country started, it's filled with precious national history, it's a paragon of education and civic engagement, it's filled with the loudest and most irritating people alive.

For America's 250th, I read Frederick Douglass’ speech, “What to the Slave is the Fourth of July?” on the House floor—for the first time in history. His speech endures as a mirror & mandate for us all—to confront our inequities while fighting for an America as good as its promise.

even if it was good policy, this shit is completely ancillary to the goal of actually limiting the power of big tech. Elon Musk has a trillion dollars and is trying to start a global race war, your response to that can’t be “kids should be on their phones less”

Dems' "Project 2029" first major policy proposal: an online child safety plan — narrowing Sec. 230, banning social media for kids under 16, promoting phone-free childhoods and more. Already backed by Cory Booker, Mikie Sherrill, Randi Weingarten + Jonathan Haidt. LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

Juneteenth can and should be recognized as a memorial of an important victory, but it also serves as a reminder: The Declaration of Independence and US Constitution contain powerful rhetoric of the promise of freedom, but the act of attaining it is a process, and we're still in the middle of it.

Here's my actual true opinion. The only way to fix all of this nonsense is rent affordability and health care . If people can afford the rent and get healthcare, then they can start and go to work for normal businesses, and write and make art and music. And there can be third places, etc etc.

Tomorrow, I'm playing a show at AS220 with fine friends. I'm bringing the full rig, you won't get more infrasound for $10 anywhere else you might think of spending your Friday night.

Flyer for Retribution Body, V.Vecker, and Killashandra at AS220 Providence, RI Friday June 19, 2026, 8 PM, $10

Since I did do my PhD in cyanobacteria growth and treatment optimization modeling AND work in the water treatment industry, I’m gonna share my theory as to what’s happening here and how to fix it. People are focusing on the painted bottom of the pool increasing residual heat, and while that 1/19

RIP Mark Rothko. You would have loved how the hydrogen peroxide bleach is only turning the Reflecting Pool blue around the perimeter
