New from 404 Media: Apple's 'Private Relay' is exposing users' real IP addresses. Private Relay is supposed to protect all your browsing in Safari. But researchers found a bunch of issues that are exposing real IPs. I verified they do. Not fixed, a live issue www.404media.co/apples-priva...

Apple's ‘Private Relay’ Is Exposing Users' Real IP Addresses

Researchers found a group of issues that mean Private Relay isn't actually protecting users' real IP addresses. 404 Media verified the issues do expose IP addresses.

Somebody asked me on Reddit why people who use AI to generate Recomp projects are currently being rejected from the communities and what they can do to fix this. I might tweak parts of this to be a more general blog post at some point, but this should be of help to anyone in a similar situation.

“All this makes AI companionship akin to what Zhang calls a ‘social snack,’ if not downright junk food: something that offers users an appealing short-term fix for their loneliness and isolation, but which lacks the necessary ingredients for long-term emotional health and well-being.”

"Oh, I only use LLMs for research. I just use AI for ideas. ChatGPT wrote the first draft, nothing else." So what you're telling me is that it's doing all your thinking for you.

it’s pretty obvious that a lot of people remember that COVID lockdowns were unpleasant and from there just extrapolate that they were therefore bad policy

getting tired of people on the left still launching substack newsletters after all the reporting on that company in recent years

Every now and then someone takes a run at me along the lines of "I don't understand why you, a scifi writer, don't appreciate 'AI'," and I'm all, motherfucker, it's *because* I'm a science fiction writer I have the positions I have, how many times do we have to fucking yell "torment nexus," my dude

Fuck you. Seriously, fuck you. Using this framing: "Two people died of a preventable infection. But don't worry, its just disabled/vulnerable people!" should automatically mean you are eligible for a fiery, pus-ridden, painful, endless and eternal toil in the depths of Tartarus

Breaking News: Two deaths in Michigan have been linked to cyclospora. Both people who had the parasite also had underlying health issues.

That's what taxes are, man. That's the definition of taxes. "You are subsidizing things you might never use" man shut the fuck up. My taxes currently subsidize like oil company exec private jets, you think I'm upset at low-income people eating inexpensive bananas?

USA TODAY Opinion@usatodayopinion.usatoday.com · 2d ago

Opinion: Mamdani's idea may sound appealing, but it's NYC taxpayers who will take the hit, subsidizing discounts they may never even use.

Anybody at @moderation.bsky.app want to try to explain why they suspended @matthewcort.land, ANOTHER of the most prominent people out here fighting for disabled and marginalized people? Like… are y'all planning to suspend/ban literally every disabled legal scholar/policy worker out here, orrrr…?

ali alkhatib@ali-alkhatib.com · 2d ago

anyway, if you're looking for Matthew Cortland, you should sub to their patreon since they're a disabled lawyer evidently getting deplatformed from places.

Pulling out is the correct decision: organisers can then go back to the University and explain how their decisions are harming the credibility of the institituion, and they're having trouble getting speakers. Organisers need to understand their role, even if they are blameless.

Opinions on the ethics of pulling out of speaking events at unis where academic freedom has just abruptly been killed? I just had to, but organisers were not understanding despite it being 3+ months away, with no costs for me yet incurred. Apparently we are all just supposed to carry on as usual?

How about we instead end the practice of companies using my social media and private email correspondence to train their human-immitation machines? They do not have the right to my privacy or my intellectual property, yet have used both to train machines to replace my labour.

Elizabeth Warren@warren.senate.gov · 2d ago

Do you use Instagram or Gmail? You could be helping to train AI. Big Tech has turned what all of us helped create into a trillion-dollar industry. It’s time to tax AI so you can share in its success.

Not schoolism advertising art lessons by using AI and AI generated chat gpt ass written ads. What the fuck are they doing Like does anyone trust them anymore? Do they just prey on hopefuls who can't tell, or

"Our role as academics is to protect this one institution. This is why we receive tax money; why we're basically civil servants. The role of the university is even lost on many, so bears repeating: produce knowledge and educate at the highest level. AI destroys both at their core"

If useful, here's my attempt to process my feelings about how I feel sadly kinda — or rather very — sick from all this AI fascist nonsense as an academic. 😶‍🌫️ I'd be pleased if even one person finds something useful because there's something to be said for processing this all together, so, um, enjoy?
