Another example tying together some low key discourse from the past few days: people (in general) will always opt for a lower cost over a higher quality, but they also reserve the right to complain endlessly about it.
It's fine to complain about air travel but if you're going to do it, I think you have to acknowledge the tradeoff, which is that it's not any more expensive than it was 20-30 years ago. Pretty good! slate.com/business/202...
apologies to the beverage product Hop Water but every time I see it my brain now thinks of the Infowars product Hog Water, an energy drink that does not have the FDA's seal of approval
I am going to be spending the rest of my day and possibly my week thinking about "Werner the Herzog" and quite frankly it's the last thing I needed

One of the many reasons I love my barber is that he has long since learned I do not care about sports, but am ABSOLUTELY the person to chat with about Emily Wilson’s translation of the Odyssey and point him towards a modern version of Beowulf
The Odyssey: incredible to look at, fantastic performances across the board, would see again the modern megaplex experience: a horror of capitalism on multiple levels that will send me into the welcoming embrace of my local indie theaters for months to come
sometimes the internet is a wonder, sometimes the internet is a mistake and sometimes the internet brings you "cheerleading 9/11" and has transcended the need for adjectives
Oh my god I think I found the video.

🛼 NEW EPISODE 🛼 The Eurowhat Movie Club celebrates the legacy of Olivia Newton-John’s film career with a detour into roller disco classic(?) Xanadu. And OH BOY do we have questions... www.eurowhat.com/306
crossword constructors: stop putting harry potter shit in the crossword. not in the clues, not in the fill. I don't want to see it.
Bet you didn't know that the Little Morton Salt Girl is an immortal being who existed before there was life on Earth.
Was looking up why Amazon is now hiding exact purchases in email all the sudden (saying you ordered "a book" and not which one) and theory is it's because your emails are being scanned by respective email client (Google using them to train Gemini, serve ads), and Amazon wants to solely own that data
friends, as we enter Tomato Time, I would be remiss to not suggest this @nigella.bsky.social recipe which only requires turning on the stove to boil the pasta and makes excellent use of a pint of cherry/grape tomatoes: www.nigella.com/recipes/sici...

I like to use fusilli lunghi, which are like long golden ringlets (or, less poetically, telephone cords) but, if you can't find them, simply substitute regulation-size fusilli (or indeed any pasta of ...

A few weeks ago I realized that tomorrow is the date the Ray Bradbury story “There Will Come Soft Rains” takes place. It’s a shame science fiction from 75 years ago isn’t relevant anymore
There Will Come Soft Rains by Ray Bradbury
The voice-clock sang, breakfast was ejected, but no doors slammed. The garage chimed and lifted its door to reveal the waiting car. The house sat alone in a city of rubble and…

Hank Green should not use LLMs in his work. Working scientists have specific use cases for LLMs, but science communicators like Hank and I do not. They add more vulnerability than value in our field. I laid out some history and background to walk you through the reasons why.
