You're absolutely right – this actually *isn't* a place of honor. * I thought esteemed deeds were commemorated here, but that was wrong. * The message wasn't about treasure, it was about danger. That's on me. * I won't sugarcoat it – the danger is still present, and now it's in your body.

ANTHROPIC: Our son loves humanity and for the low price of trillions and trillions of dollars will usher in an era of unprecedented peace and prosperity! OPENAI: Our horrible oafish son is hacking web sites without our permission. ANTHROPIC: (eyes narrowing) Our son is also evil

The twenty-first century has provided me with a robot that can sweep my floor in three times the amount of time it would take for me to do it myself, and then spends 10 minutes trying to return to its docking station before I place it there

I'm not going to QT but there's a silicon valley NIMBY complaining about maintaining the historical character of Palo Alto and man that place should look like fucking singapore. Market cap of tech companies based in and around there is like $14 trillion and it's full of fucking bungalows? So broken

That said, let us take a moment to thank our Bluesky Trans and Furry Elders for freaking out Jack Dorsey so much he bolted and left us this nice social media playground, taking most of his crypto chuds with him. We thank you for your service.

And while I am normally open to the "don't let the worst people in the conversation define the terms" idea, in this case that horse is on a boat going across the ocean and the barn door fell off the hinges a half dozen years ago. It's too late. Much too late.

Aside from the obvious inaccuracy, the reason why we need to reject the notion of "lockdowns" in the US it's because that word is used intentionally to make people feel like the public health measures that saved millions of lives were a punishment and a harm that stole freedom from them.

A genuinely poetic description of what happens when you don't build the fucking housing. Your city gets hollowed out until it more resembles a sepulchral ruin in unusually good condition than an actual home.

"A city doesn't get hollowed out by too many visitors. It hollows out when too little of the city remains underneath them, when the thing they queued to see has been quietly sold off around them while they queued." Great piece on #Dublin by Conor McGuire in Western People.
