Human dignity is my guiding principle. Politics, cities, a dash of wholesome. Toronto/Tkaronto is home base. Pipeline defenders not welcome.

Budget day was busy but this story about dark money using influencers to manipulate Gen Z voters on oil & gas shouldn't get lost. We need far more regulation of this. “We’re multiple steps down the spending chain before we actually get to ‘Oh, influencers were being used.’” #BCpoli #CdnPoli

The influencer accounts on Instagram and TikTok present natural gas expansion as the solution to BC’s economic woes.

While those posts do not disclose who, if anyone, is paying for them, Greenpeace Canada investigator Abde Amr has traced them back to Canada’s fossil fuel industry.

One of them is Avatar Innovations, a venture fund based in Calgary. In a presentation discovered by Amr, it showcases its “Gen-Z new-media strategy” aimed at young people in BC.

The presentation describes BC as “one of the most important narrative battlegrounds in Canada’s resource debate.” The strategy: “reshape public perception” by “activating authentic industry storytellers across TikTok, Instagram, podcasts, and digital platforms.”

It mentions a partnership with Salient Media, a marketing brand that owns a portfolio of Instagram and TikTok accounts like “Vancity Vibe,” “Unfiltered,” and “BC Things,” all targeted at young people in BC. Together, these accounts have over 560,000 followers.

Targeting Gen Z voters is strategic, according to Amr. Opinion polls have found that the province’s youngest voters are the least likely to support oil and gas industry projects, such as the recently announced Pacific Link oil pipeline.

NEW: Canada's oil and gas industry is using a network of Gen Z social media accounts to influence voters and overcome resistance to the new projects in BC. Thanks to @abde.bsky.social www.nationalobserver.com/2026/11/04/i...

fuck, a truly blue texas?!? that is an electoral apocalypse for the republican party. hell we might get a constitutional amendment ending the electoral college out of it

I know everybody is understandably focused on the US Senate, but it looks to me like more than 75% of Americans will reside in states with Democratic governors, which seems like a very very big deal too.

Articles exactly like this were published in 2024 and 2020 and 2018 and 2016 and 2014 and 2012 and 2010 and 2008. Republicans constantly claim that there is about to be a giant shift in how American Jews vote due to Israel & the media loves indulging their theories, even though it never happens.

Jewish Democrats head to the polls frustrated with their party. Will they still help flip control of Congress?

Jewish voters remain overwhelmingly Democratic, but Republicans see an opening in key races where frustration over Israel and antisemitism could help determine control of Congress
