Researchers: The best way we can accommodate refugees is with well-funded welfare services, everyone benefits from this. Right wing: lalalaala we can't hear you, it's going to overwhelm those services and break the system, you have to vote for us (we'll defund the system so it breaks btw)

I am BEGGING the BBC to stop calling them “anti-immigration” protesters, they’re racists. If they’re shouting racist abuse, and attacking people of colour, they’re racist. Call them what they are. Racists, stirred up by right-wing politicians and media. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Delivery driver 'afraid to work' after protesters' racist traffic-cone attack in Glasgow

Muhammad Jawad Yaqoob was attacked during a spate of violent incidents on Saturday, when police said people were targeted for the colour of their skin.

Lxds, it has been 11 years now. With the best will in the world I'm really going to need you to come to terms with the fact that accepting the framing of liberals' utterly bad faith criticisms of the left cannot help. Libs'll only see concessions as encouragement to attack more.

Imagine saying to a disabled person they dont know about genocide and implying we werent targets of the Holocaust Google aktion t4 you fucking ignoramous and dont ever bother disabled people again

Just a little reminder to everyone: Algorithms are useless. It's very hard to find cool stuff without being shown it by someone else. So if you find something cool - a band, a game, a video essay or anything else - share it and tell people about it. And thanks to anyone who does! You're cool!

It’s not even code. It’s policy. It’s policy written down in manifestos such as the AfD’s. Manifestos that people can vote for in the next election. Manifestos which almost 1/3 of Germans say they will happily vote for. They really mean all immigrants too. “Ausländer raus!” is what they chant.

The world’s richest man, at it again. Reminder: “remigration” is far right code for the forced expulsion of ethnic “undesirables” in order to “purify” the nation.

Tweet from Elon Musk: “Anyone who opposites remigration is a traitor”

I don’t mean this to be waspish at all, because I know people mostly mean well, but I feel like ‘but Elon Musk is an immigrant’! Stuff really misses the point. He’s an unrepentant white suprematist with literal Nazi sympathies. Word games re ‘hypocrisy’ just feels…. Not where the convo should be

If you are a @theguardian.com reader you wouldn’t know that the largest ever gathering of trans people in history yesterday was protesting against the Burnham government’s transphobic hate-policies. It had an article about making an omelette though.

Food
'I panic. It turns to rubber': could I learn to make omurice, the 'world's hardest omelette?

150,000 marched yesterday in London for trans rights. Opened the Sky News app. Scrolled and scrolled. Nothing. BBC News app. Nothing. Guardian app. Nothing. This is what actual silencing looks like.

I have a pile of screenshots of homophobes making this *exact* argument in old newspaper clips Because they have no real argument, they constantly argue semantics about definitions about their hate This is just one (oofft manually wrote that alt 🫪 so may be typos)

Screenshot of an old letter from a newspaper

"Gay activists are quick to lable anyone who opposed opposes their agenda a "homophobe". Its a label used for political gain, a clever ruse to elicit support and silence opponents. My dictionary doesnt carry the definition so i googled it. Homophobe: a person who hates or fears homosexuals. I dont know anyone who does. Nor do i know any straight people who "hate" homosexuals. I know people tho, who hate how gay activists are trying to redefine marriage and push their agenda into schools. Hating a political agenda, though, is different from hating the people who espouse it."

There's a long history of bigots inventing words / phrases to redefine their bigtory. Scepticism implies honest inquiry and I guarantee that the vast majority of transphobes who say "consult a biology textbook" have learned everything they know about trans people from other transphobes online. 1/

Can anyone persuade Dawn to consult a Biology textbook ?

And 'Transphobia' is quite different in meaning from 'Transscepticism'

Calling scepticism 'phobic' is trying the win the argument before it has taken place

Damn right. Many people have said to me that disabled people have no place in the revolution. Every single right we have has been won by disabled people because abled folks very rarely stand up for us. Its disrespectful.

While imperfect and unevenly enforced, the Americans with Disabilities Act was a genuine civil rights milestone that has literally reshaped our society for the better. We should celebrate it loudly.

Did the anti-rights groups think trans + people would just lay down and take the abuse? Did they think we wouldn't resist the destruction of all human rights and freedoms in the UK? Trans + people exist! Always have! Always will!
