"don't make enough money" is a fig leaf All those degree programs--social work, art, etc.--have disproportionately female student bodies. This is designed to make it harder for women to attend college--college education being a key factor in women's autonomy from men & left-leaning voting pattern.

President Trump is banning students majoring in degrees that don’t make enough money from taking out college loans. Degrees for social work, art, religious studies, teaching aides, and music will be hit the hardest. trib.al/aaAEu6v

my neighborhood 7-11 closed a couple years ago and tried to reopen but couldn’t get the permit approved because there’s a preschool next door and 7-11s sell alcohol (the previous permit was grandfathered in). i saw a fence going up around the lot recently and looked up what was moving in: a gun shop

Agreed. At the least, they should stick one on their TrackPads. Then I could have a small-ish one on my desk, without needing to use their keyboards.

The USA became a place where a single person decides several international policies and often changes it daily. Crossing the border risks being disappeared into a concentration camp. Food is unsafe to eat. Sciences are viewed with suspicion.

Well, I care a lot about the future of Drupal now only because my livelihood depends on it but since the DA can't do anything about the project self destructing by embracing LLMs, what's the point here? (I quit contributing partially because the community didn't care for my proposal to ban LLM code)

Escorting the nine-year-old to a friend’s birthday pool party, I told him I wasn’t going to swim in part because I’m dressed for work. He told me I could just jump in like Mamdani did. This is what socialism does to our children.

Larry Summers served as a Harvard economist for nearly 20 years after a speech in which he said women were too stupid to do research. SBF's parents still work at Stanford despite obviously advising him on how to commit fraud.

I don't think we should mince words. Transphobia and hatred killed May Pollard. The Idaho legislature killed her as surely as if they'd pointed a gun at her head and pulled the trigger. Anti-trans laws were the gun. www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news...

Idaho pushed anti-trans laws for years. Then a teen died.

The life and death of May Pollard, 16, provides a window into the tragic effect that legislation and political rhetoric have had on trans people in America.

When guys are like “that’s not rape, all my friends have done that,” that’s exactly what we’re talking about. That’s the problem. Rape is so common and unpunished that a guy could casually reveal all his friends are rapists and not see it as a problem.

Visiting my university’s new, expensively-refurbished space for startup incubators and senior management and cannot imagine a better illustration of the American university at this moment in time than a breathlessly press-released “collaboration room” featuring a single desk and chair.

A room labelled “collaboration room” featuring a single desk and chair.

the audacity of this hurts so much so much MAGA have killed tens or perhaps hundreds of thousands of people by making masking a divisive issue but when it's Trump fireworks they will happily wear a mask even outside but I can't attend a conference safely because no one masks

Bill Kuchman@billkuchman.bsky.social · last mo.

"The Park Service, in a separate document, similarly said that people should ‘wear an n95 mask when outdoors’ and ‘remain indoors as much as possible during and after the show.’” The guidance is to remain indoors ... during the fireworks. www.washingtonpost.com/climate-envi...

We're constantly told that women can never compete with men and yet Kelsey Pfendler is about to set the record for the fastest solo row from California to Hawaii, beating the men's record by a full week. What an incredible feat of athleticism, endurance, and grit.

A promotional graphic featuring a photograph of a woman, Kelsey Pfendler, rowing a specialized ocean rowboat alone on open water under an overcast sky. The white boat is designed for long distances, featuring enclosed cabins at the bow and stern, solar panels on the rear cabin, and various mounted navigational antennas. The hull is decorated with vibrant pink, purple, and blue swirling wave graphics.
Several sponsor logos are visible along the side of the boat, including Pasha Hawaii, Hatch River Expeditions, Concept2, Güntner, and the cursive Lily logo near the stern.
