I don't think the robots are going to kill us all but I think there is a real-but-low probability that the robots make cybercrime cheap enough that the modern Internet can no longer exist

Facebook for some reason recommends me content from a group called Toronto Car People. In an unsurprising twist, they hate all of those things too
the thing about this is that this isn't an AI problem. AI is *accelerating* the problem, but industry investment in training, mentoring and developing employees has been waning for decades, what's different is that it's going to hit white collar work in the way it's been hitting the trades for years
Btw, even among pro AI friends, this concern is ALL OVER THE PLACE. Devs wondering how we get senior devs if the ecosystem for junior devs goes away. Doctors talking about not needing interns. Lawyers not needing paralegals. There's an ecological aspect to this and we need a plan.
I was optimistic about Alto until now www.thestar.com/news/gta/for...

Apparently there are only 20 Black people
a lot of folks on here need to read the first paragraph of this
They don’t have to be the absolute best models, but the mega-prominence of Copilot and Google AI Search mean that their quality has an outsized impact on the field (and the world) as a whole. We should all want them to stay in the top 5 at all times.
I think at least some of the unpopularity of AI is because Google AI search is *particularly* shit and forced down your throat
The AI bear case has shifted from “this technology will never work” to “it will never have economic use” to “it will not generate revenue” to “it will not generate profit” to “profit is not sufficient to support valuations” which does suggest they may have missed something bsky.app/profile/mexi...
The grand conspiracy though is the fact that nothing of value is being created
yeah a huge chunk of the population is seeing garbage technology that gets things wrong constantly and is nothing but social danger and capitalist monstrousness and then a tiny slice is seeing a complex, troubling, but utterly comprehensive transformation in the field of "make computer do thing"
$ are a straight up better gift like 95% of the time
Are you more likely to give $ or gifts?
If you are not using an agent harness to debug your home computer setups, you are missing out. My self-hosted setup would be half of what it is now without them.
An unexpectedly stress-reducing use of Codex/Code is just fixing problems with my various Windows machines: weird driver issues, game incompatibilities, even just tiny stuff that used to annoy me (why does the program that I set to run at startup not run at startup?). Hours saved. Annoying hours.
“Programs must be written for people to read, and only incidentally for machines to execute” as a foundational computer science textbook famously said
A program is a specification for what a computer should do. By this definition, “vibe coding” is also coding. It matters not whether the specification is in assembly, Python, or English.
The fundamental, delicious paradox of studying history is that: 1. These people are radically different from me, and I may never properly understand them. 2. These people are exactly like me.
one tendency that comes out about period films is the insistence that XYZ moral thought would not have occurred to anyone in the ancient world. to be sure there are moral innovations and changes but the existence of thorough dissatisfaction with the present moral order is not a modern phenomenon
Being so racist against and jealous of Black people that you can't appreciate Stevie Wonder has to be a curse from God.
My beef with Morrissey runs all the way back to 1986 when he said this about Black artists. Nineteen Eighty Six, while the Smiths were still active. It’s not a “later phenomenon” don’t try and lie to me www.standard.co.uk/culture/musi...
Sometimes I think we don’t talk about just how goddamn good Fela and the Afrika 70 really were and what starkly overt political music that actually picked real fights (with all too real consequences) was really like

You could get mad about dead senator discourse *or* you could enjoy this video of sea lions who have retaken an island with a decommissioned lighthouse off the coast of Oregon and now use the staircase as a giant slide.

Agree. Writing code will never be the same as it was before AI agents, no matter what happens with future models.
The thing I'm saying is that even if the models *never train again* which is *most of the stupid datacenter buildout* things have changed forever *in software*, we're just waiting for the shockwave to propagate.
I ain't saying TKMS won't build good submarines. But I am saying that a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. Unless of course those birds in the bush are European.
It was always an uphill battle for South Korea, but I believed they were the better choice (politically). Carney and DND's trans-Atlantic bias here on display. Alas. At least a choice has been made. www.theglobeandmail.com/politics/art...
the brits are screaming wonderwall in the azteca. god is dead
"having a dude who can score goals" remains pretty important
Rough one for Canada today. Did a lot better than the score shows, but it is what it is.
We should allow more hotels. Locals have visitors come from out of town, and I can't always be putting everybody up in my basement. I'm lucky to even *have* a basement for that. So it's either far away hotel, or random AirBnb basement. Nah. Titi deserves a pool near her nephew on her vacation!
We talk a lot about residential land use but what’s one big non-residential change that you would make to your city’s planning policies?
really cannot be emphasized enough that the drafters of the birthright clause very much considered cases analogous to undocumented immigrants and *included them too*
That's right.
