Gary Gygax may have helped bring commercial TTRPGs into being, but it was Greg Stafford who dreamed up the kind of role-playing systems that I'd want to spend the rest of my life playing. A kindred soul to all those of us who believe in the narrative agency of the player.

Garycon, an event designed to remember Gary Gygax's legacy in the TTRPG space, recognized Chaosium founder Greg Stafford as its 2025 Lifetime Achievement award recipient. "Short of Gary Gygax himself no one else is so worthy of that recognition." -Chaosium VP Jeff Richards

part of the reason, why im suddenly, maybe for a radical type of forgiveness, is like. life is too fucking short, man. just look at the past week or two. grim reaper's taking all the wrong ones. one of these fucking days he'll get me, and i just hope the mess i left behind isnt too much to clean up

one of the best pieces of video game criticism i stumbled across was in the middle of a fire emblem video and the youtuber didnt realise how foundational a take this was because it seems obvious but it was: the reward when levelling up is not primarily stats and utility, but shiny flashing lights

I'm constantly exploring other cultures & histories through video games so it's really cool to see others do the same with mine. An obscure 2-3 hour indie survival horror with only 133 reviews on Steam can make a youtuber do a 1h essay on Brazil's military dictatorship - such is the power of games.

Also real talk, I do think GDscript is a significant win for Godot and if you're coming into it, even if you are used to and like C#, you should give gdscript a shot. The language is somewhat lightweight, like the engine itself, but being specifically designed for game development is a win.

In October last year I was fired by Rockstar Games in what we believe was a union busting move. We lost our home. We lost 2 jobs with my partner being forced to resign. We lost a community. Most importantly however we had to leave our two dogs behind, one of which will never return.

Back in October, Rockstar Games fired 34 employees for alleged gross misconduct. The severity of these firings could have spelled the end for a burgeoning union effort that was underway, but it didn't. In fact, the union is now *bigger* than it's ever been before. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ym4z...

Low-key one of the biggest & most important announcements in gaming this year. In a time where preservation & easy accessibility to older games is becoming more important than ever, this is so fucking cool that this was able to happen. Support this if you want more initiatives like this to happen!

Man, acabo de terminar la demo de The Life and Suffering of Prince Jerian y me he quedado con unas ganas de más... Una mierda que estuviera bugeado el español por alguna razón pero ha estado MUY guay, no me esperaba los elementos de fantasía y el final mola MUCHO. AGH ahora lo quiero también! 😩

Was this ever plausible? If you know what the effects of broad tariffs are and what a mass deportation campaign actually entails, I think it was pretty inevitable that many folks who liked the idea in principle would sour once they saw the policies in action.

Greg Sargent@gregsargent.bsky.social · 6mo ago

When Trump took office, it looked plausible that the public would rally behind his tariffs and deportations. He had successfully (if wrongly) painted Biden as weak for pulling out of Afghanistan. But now his numbers are abysmal on all three of these GOP issues. 2/ newrepublic.com/article/2074...

I have been thinking about fantasy setting in which god is real and often in these stories, it's god that's the ultimate controller of the world. But think about how real world empires and governments use the idea of god? How they spread it to control people as tool?

I'm not saying anything new here but the rapid normalization of open extreme racism, thuggery, & general idiocy on the American right is really astonishing! This has been the case for a while now but has become notably worse in the last year, w/ these people increasingly just sounding like
