I think it would be helpful to know what kinds of underlying conditions make one more vulnerable to this specific infectious disease. Diabetes? Heart condition? Kidney issues? Asthma? Parkinsons? It would be nice to know the ages. I don't think it would violate privacy to share more info.

I’m intrigued by the recent resurgence of the ‘Long Covid is not real’ nonsense we saw back in 20/21. The refusal to learn is one thing, but the dismissal of reality is another. Long Covid is too painful, too common & too present in many people’s lives to be denied. The story is hard to rewrite.

As a % of school age kids, how many of their family members would be vulnerable? And given it would ne small, would it not have been more sensible to homeschool that smaller cohort of children? Given most parents were not of an age and health profile to be at risk?

Guys, I'm breaking the thread for a moment. This should be a regular reminder: Make somebody feel seen. A nurse, a teacher, the dish busser at your favorite coffee shop, somebody with whom you share a slender but real connection. There will come a time when those moments are precious to you.

Some of the people with Cyclosporiasis will end up disabled. They will survive the acute infection, but their lives will never be the same. You never know what infection, accident or injury might change your health forever. Disability justice benefits everyone.

If we care about disability justice, one of the lowest-hanging fruits is masks in healthcare. It remains unacceptable that vulnerable patients must ask, sometimes beg, healthcare workers to mask, while also explaining to them why respirator masks are better

When people die and the media says they had “pre-existing conditions”… they’re pacifying the public. Anyone could die from Cyclosporiasis, but they want you to believe it can’t happen to you. It can only happen to the weak, the disabled, the elderly. The expendable people. Eugenics.

We have also been rather consistent in saying you cannot contain eugenics to one issue. It is too convenient to capital to blame sickness on sick people. And it’s why it needs to be resisted openly, fiercely, bravely, and even when you want brunch.

When disabled people/many people who work on disability/health pointed to the dangers of this kind of framing since COVID, they were usually mocked ("oh you think everything is eugenics") or ignored. But normalising the idea that the deaths of disabled people are desirable/reassuring is dangerous.

A lot of the arguments about school stuff with COVID lockdowns (worth noting the US never did real European-style lockdowns, ever) seems to think kids couldn't get COVID. They can and they did and many died. And they took it home with them to family. Don't forget that.
