i will simply never get over the science op-end that said "our endorsement of democrats did nothing to help democrats but did decrease trust in scientists - and we'll do it again"

the ygelsias et al. position that every academic needs to exercise ironclad message discipline is obviously untenable and unrealistic, but I do think academics are poorly served by professional organizations, the people who should know better, being pretty tone deaf and inept.

When scientific journals started endorsing candidates, this led to a drop in trust in science and had no meaningful electoral consequences. All downside for science. No upside for the endorsed candidates.

I am not an AAUP member, but I think it is a really bad idea for the American Association of University Professors to be endorsing candidates, especially in a factional Democratic primary.
